I'm seeing odd results in Yahoo. Depending on certian search terms, actual website title are changing in the results??? For example, search for my site searchbliss. I get "powered by SearchBliss" as the title:
http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=...ei=UTF-8&x=wrt

But the real title shows for example, when search for "webmaster services" because it is in the actual title:
http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=...ei=UTF-8&x=wrt

Are you listed in the Yahoo directory. They might have gotten it from there somehow. Not sure why you would be listed in the directory as 'powered by' though.

No, I'm not in the Yahoo Directory. Odd isn't it.

Yeah. I'm surprised they would change your title. You don't even have the words powered by on the page do you?

Another odd thing is.. "powerd by" SERP listing has cached page and actual titled SERP listing has No cached page.

I see a cached page for both. Still odd though.

And vangogh, I have "powered by" for image alts in the free website content images, but nowhere on the index page.

The only thing I can think of is that for some reason Yahoo is taking "powered by SearchBliss" from alt tags on our powered by logos that reside on our free website content. But why?

Seems like they're using the anchor text that points to the url instead of the actual page title. I just checked on a few other sites including my own and it's not just your site.

If I do a search for keywords where my home page happens to rank first the title of the page is displayed, regardless of whether or not I've searched for words within the title. When I search for the site name I don't get the page title. In my case I get the site name, which is probably the most common anchor text pointing back to the page.

Something tells me you're seeing the 'powered by SearchBliss' because it's the most common anchor text pointing to the domain.

Srange. Thanks vangogh. Most links pointing to SearchBliss do have "powered by SearchBliss Web Tools" in the alt tags, but the title displayed stops at SearchBliss.

I think it's because the links are images. If there's not actual anchor text I think most search engines will move next to the alt text.

I had changed the image alts on the free content a while ago to "Powered by SearchBliss Web Tools". But most who have the content have the original alt text "Powered by SearchBliss". When the other out-weighs the old, it'll look better, but I do not want to change the alts to my site title...although this might be a good idea, it would take even longer to show with this. Besides, how often does someone search for "SearchBliss"? We're not an icon yet, and by then it won't matter.

That's true about people searching for you by name and I would think if they did they would still click on the first result if it said 'powered by SearchBliss'

You could change the alt text to whatever you use for a page title though.

I just changed the alts to the title. Now it will take time for these news alts to outweigh the old. Now I wait.

Yeah I assume a lot of people have already downloaded your tools. Hopefully it won't take too long for the new text to outweigh the old.

Now Yahoo is suddenly showing the correct title after changing the "powered by SearchBliss" alts. Maybe they were using the alt tags from the free content that's on my site (as examples) as opposed to external sites using them? Or maybe they just changed things back.

Hmm? I was thinking it would take longer to see a change. Maybe it was just one or two links that had tipped things to the powered by and just getting a few links without it tipped the scales back.

Either way I'm glad the titles are looking right again.
