Yahoo is planning to launch on Wednesday an ad network for small Web publishers intended to strengthen its hand against rival Google, a source familiar with the plan told CNET News.com.

As previously reported, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company has been working for months on a self-serve advertising service tailored to bloggers and other small Web publishers, a move that homes in on Google's territory.

While Yahoo and Google already go head-to-head serving major search-advertising partners such as America Online, Google has largely enjoyed a monopoly delivering its signature text-only ads to smaller content sites, including blogs.

Believe it or not they have an advantage over Google becasue of the whole 360, YM, Y!G, Yahoo Audio, and now this ad network. Yahoo has a lot to offer. Google does too but I think Yahoo is catching up and I think the tables will be turning soon.

Yeah their ad program (SO FAR) is just like Googles (or so it looks) but that may not be the way it is behind the scenes. You may have more options. I just dropped Google's Adsense program and went with another program where I can choose which advertisers are shown on my site based on their bid per click. Maybe this is something that Yahoo is offering ... I wish I was a tester ... I haven't heard back from them yet though.

I won't put the kobosh on Yahoo yet. They are now the largest search engine on the net. As a matter of fact ...
Quote:
The internet property and search engine Yahoo! said that its search index now includes some 20.8 billion web pages and images, nearly double that of Google.

The true size of Yahoo!'s index has never officially been revealed, although most industry watchers pegged it at between six billion and eight billion, compared to more than 11 billion for number one search engine Google. But Monday's announcement means that Yahoo! has the biggest index among the major search engines - giving Yahoo! bragging rights within the industry.
Also they are in deals right now to purchase Alibaba.com. Alibaba operates two online business sites--Taobao.com, an online auction site, and Alibaba.com, an online trading site. Both were ranked among the world's top 40 Web sites by Alexa, the Internet-monitoring service.

Yahoo is working on something ... they have been launching a lot of new stuff lately. Plus I have a feeling Google is starting to lose the interest of their users. Their results aren't as revelant as they use to be. You have to really know how to search in order to find what you want. For those who don't know how to search ... Yahoo brings more revelant information to the forefront.

Also ... make note ... Yahoo Messenger is the number one instant messaging program in the world at this moment. Yahoo Messenger brings all of Yahoo's services into one program. Something Google has yet to incorporate.

I think Yahoo's results are the better than Google right now. Once people start to think a company, person, or anything for that matter is untouchable, boom, down it goes just like the Titanic. The bigger they are the harder they fall. Of course Google can always rethink their algorythms and change their course, but Yahoo and MSN are going to be right behind them, just waiting for Google to slip up.

I completely agree. Google is going to see it's stocks drop and support drop drastically soon!! Just wait and see ... and Yahoo will be right there to catch those lost visitors.

The only problem I have with this is:

Participants of the program must be a resident of the U.S., with valid U.S. Social Security or Tax ID number.

Yahoo or Google? Humm I have Google Adsense on my web site. Why will I change to Y? I know if they offer a bigger cut. They already let know what are the price for the keywords maybe they will also share what they will pay. G don't tell rumors said something in 40%-60% but really we don't know. I belive that the content advertisment will be dominated only by the one that share most. Also it still MSN round to come.

I have been testing yahoo publish on www.howtonetworking.com for a while. So far so good. What I find is that click rate is lower than adsense while CPM is higher. I will get back with more details.
