Google is usually the pickiest of the three. They tend to be the best at filtering out anything spammy. How you build your links will play a big part in which search engines you will get rankings on first. Google cares about link quality the most, while with msn and yahoo you can do quite well by focusing more on quantity of links.
Getting 1st place at Yahoo.com is not as hard as getting 1st place at Google.com and it does not take as long as getting listed at the top of MSN.com
Brilliant observation Brett.
Since on your site, (which is under construction, *sigh*), you claim to be an expert in SEO, why don't you give the folks here some tips for ranking
with Yahoo?

It seems like the sites that I have at the top of Yahoo are almost always also at the top of MSN, but not always at the top of Google.
Great job buddy! I agree that it is much harder to rank in Google than Yahoo. I've experience that first hand. For a very competitive niche I rank on the second page first spot in Yahoo. In Google I'm still on the 5th page, rising and falling.
Brandon many people are in the same boat as you...stuck on the 5th or 6th page of Google. A lot of these people have thin affiliate websites with little unique content. I have talked to someone who got out of that situation by simply adding more and more unique content.
Bompa to rank well on Yahoo it is almost all about backlinks, external and internal. Just get enough links with good anchor text and you can dominate Yahoo fairly easily. It probably also helps to have your keywords in prime onpage locations...title, meta description, headers, etc.

Ha, thanks for the info. Very useful. Those are things I'm currently working on Jermey.
Google has a different algorithm to many of the other search engines. They have their own ways of ranking websites.
As with yahoo and msn; they have a more generic and (Can be tricked) algorithm which ranks your website into the Search Engine Results Page's (SERPS).
It is best to get some good relevant links back to your website in order to obtain a better rank. Also well written content that is regularly updated is always a must.
Hi, thanks for the advice. You are right, just recently I went from like page 20 to page 4 in yahoo. Google has yet to catch on, but it's a start. Thanks
