I use Yahoo answer a lot. You don't get immediate backlinks, but if you are genuinely helpful and your website can offer further help related to the question, you stand a chance of getting visited by some people who are really interested in what you're doing. This can of course lead to backlinks in the long run, but they will be natural ones made by people who have an interest in your site and therefore of a better quality in most cases. It is not a fast way to get traffic but in my opinion it is an enjoyable one.
Personally, I learn a lot about people from the way they ask questions. Quite a lot of my site content has been inspired by Yahoo questioners - I have an RSS feed to the Yahoo classical music questions page which delivers the questions to my MyYahoo page every day, and if I see something which people are finding confusing I answer the question and then may be put something on my website too. Don't forget that no question is a stupid question, and that the kind of stuff peope type into Yahooi is also what they often type into google.
