I'm trying to find out what I could sell a site for

its currently has a google PR of 4 but it is ranked number 12 for the term "gemstones" in google(& aol)

The site has a basic shopping cart etc, it would definitely need to be redesigned for another gemstone dealer to able to use it.

We also have the site name trademarked , and would be selling that as well

I went to the site.

Unfortunatley, there isn't really a lot one could do with it.

Sorry, allow me to clarify...
The product you sell is somewhat specalised. The market for that kind of site is probabally quite small.

There is no advertising on the site either. That means that when a purchaser buy's the site, the ROI won't be seen for ages. If there was Adsense or something there, then somneone would be able to make their money back quickly.

This is just my opinion. There may well be people out there looking for exactly this kind of thing. I however am not one of those people and as a result don't feel that it is worth all that much.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news and all that.

Like I say, it's just one opinion.

I'm not talking about continuing to use the site to sell polished feldspar , I'm talking about using it to sell other gemstones

see the part where it says it has be redesigned,

how much would a professiaonal seo charge to get a site ranked for "gemstones"

FYI, the keyword "Gemstones "get about 1475 searches a day across the major search engines according to Wordtracker. If you could find a gemstone selling site with an affiliate program (there are probably several) and get the site into the top 10 (top 5 especially) you could probably make a decent amount of money from the site...

umm no google is based on links not on the page content

as long as the inward and out ward links are maintained then the site should be fine

I could probably push it into top ten no problem , it was sort of novelty thing ,the site sells feldspar or sunstones but those terms where so easy to optimize for , once it was topped out for them

I just started on the "gemstones" term to see how hard it is

sorry, that's where you are soooooooooo wrong. It's all about content. Links matter, sure. But they are pretty insignificant in terms of Google SERP's. Without the right content, the site will flop. Full stop.

In the past fortnight,k I have read (on several forums) That Inbound links are starting to be devalued.

I am not saying that they are irrelevant, however OUTBOUND links are starting to have a real influence.

Since Google's puchace of Applied Semantics, their algo's have changed dramatically.

Ferret, there is no reason for us to argue about this. If you are right, then great! I have learnt something new. Instead of insulting people's knowledge (because it is not what you have learnt in the past), why not try and look into it.

I may be wrong. I am not saying that I am 100% without a doubt correct. I can't possibly do that. And neither can you (unless you are a Google employee).

This is pointless.

Why don't we try to start things over?

I do not like confrontation and I am sure you do not either.

At no point have I said that you that I disliked your site. I have said what I feel. And so have you. Let's leave it at that.

focus focus! this discussion is better (and is already being discussed elsewhere) discussed elsewhere, please, lets stay on topic and try and help this person sell their site! . I'm also curious as to how you gauge what a sites worth.

I currently play it like I'm buying a brick and mortar business and offer 10% over the site's last year's income. That's just me. And its not a very good estimate especially online when you can lose rank and lose visitors so quickly.
