Hey peeps!

www.optimetrix.co.uk is my new project that (so far) will be primarily aimed towards my personal web design portfolio that I have created for local businesses. The site is only a day old so there is very little in way of content, but I'm undecided on the Joomla skin I'm using.

It's a premium skin that ive seriously had to edit to death to get it looking okay, but I've done far better before and am beginning to wonder if this design will do my site & services justice? I'm a member of a few template clubs so I have many to choose from but I would just like your thoughts on the design so far.

The design is relatively simple and clean, but I find the text butts up too much against the edges of it. You may want some more padding.

Your bigger issue is with your spelling and grammar. You should have someone proofread it before you go live with it.

Thanks for replying, I've changed skin to a more recogniseable one now which I prefer at the moment, although nothing is definate at such an early stage.

I apologise for the poor spelling/grammar but any text on the main site was rushed so it would help me with the overall site appearance, normally I use Word beforehand and will do so when I start publishing my written content/news.

Very long way to go as you can see but the site will be very resourceful indeed by the new year, would be great to see what you think of it then

The logo was knocked up literally in seconds as it's not at the top of my list atm, but if any budding artistes would like to have a crack at creating one then that would be great!

Just a quick weekly update on site progress as you should be able to see what direction I'm taking the site.

It's early days, and no better time to start advertising the vacant staff positions - an updated listing can be viewed here - some positions are paid also.

I've started to develop the template club (joomla), although this section is going to take some time to get off the ground as I'm scouring the net for other designers to join in. So far I've developed 7 templates for Joomla and would ideally prefer to open the club officially with around 50 to choose from so if you can create quality Joomla templates and would like to earn some cash in the process then visit here for further info.

Ive also started the extensive process of adding a collection of 3,000+ GNU/GPL files available for download. I'm sick and tired of trawling around the web for the latest downloads for a CMS/Blog or forum software and thought the idea of one-central place for a mass of downloadables (all freely available to the generel public) would be of great benefit to many webmasters with multiple sites on their servers that they regularly update or modify. View all resources here.

Theres also several demo installations for you to try out using demo/demo to access the administration area. Use these installations as you please to drivetest a CMS before you install.

Future plans
Hopefully in time, I hope to be playing 'home' to a new CMS based around our community forum so we can all get stuck in with it's development by publishing skins, mods, patches etc... This is obviously a long-term project and would need a few coders dedicated to this project.

If you are interested in this project, in any way, then please contact us expressing your interest and what you feel you could bring to this project.

Due to it being the festive period, updating the site is going to be obviously more difficult so I'll return with a new update in the New Year.

Happy Christmas to all at WTF

I dont like the grey background colour behind the left menus, but it's probably a personal thing.

I like the logo, just because it isnt elaborate, doesn't mean it's rubbish. It's clean and smooth.

Thanks for your opinions lads, I'll keep them in mind.

As you can probably tell I'm not the greatest of GFX designers and would really appreciate some help - a fresh new project for you to stretch your fingers perhaps?

We are now able to offer free hosting to anyone wanting to start up there own site or forums etc..

You get: 250MB space & 3GB Bandwidth along with Sql, ftp and email etc..

Theres no lengthy signup process and we can install software for you if you don't know how to.

Whats the catch?
TBH there ain't one. It's just a way of promoting our paid-for hosting plans that you can easily upgrade to if you run out of resources. The only thing we request of you is that you leave the "Hosted for free at Optimetrix" link at the bottom of your site and you can be freely hosted for as long as you want.

Visit the site for details.

Regards and a HNY to all !!!

Happy New Year everydoby!

This design reminds me way too much of the OpenSourceCMS-design... It's a nice design, but hey, it's already in use.
If that's not the point, then may I recommend a new design?

And yeah, do something about that logo. Google "logo templates" for inspiration.

Was waiting for someone to mention the opensource design tbh

It is a nice design but it is in use so a new fresh design will be used shortly.

As this site is still so young, I am going to restart it from scratch in order for me to fully integrate our forthcoming community forum boards which along with the usual 'webbie' talk sections etc... will be based around our forthcoming Content Management System release so if anyone is seeking a new challenge and would like to be part of Optimetrix projects then please contact us via the site or mail[AT]optimetrix[DOT]co.uk

The main site will still of course be Joomla and the forums will be using the latest release of SMF forums, all fully integrated with each other resulting in just one signup/login process, hopefully the store will be integrated also but that may require some work (Cubecart integration possible??).

Thanks bknvernst for taking the time to reply

Apologies, but I'm in the middle of reconstructing the main site to cater for our forthcoming community projects & releases.

It wont take me long to get things back to where we were and will be sporting a whole new look, by the end of the week at the latest

With great thanks to those who took the time to submit their feedback, I am now in the process of reconstructing the Optimetrix main site (www.optimetrix.co.uk) based on the feedback I have recieved.

I am also adding our new community forum boards that will be used for:
  • Providing support to our paid-clients
  • Developing our forthcoming Content Management System
  • Discussing regular webmaster related topics
  • Advertising community sites & jobs
  • Plus much more . . .
The forums are fully integrated with the main site registration system resulting in just one signup/login process for all members, and the forums are also fully wrapped neatly inside our main site template providing you with easy navigation around our site.

At this moment in time, the site & forums are being re-uploaded and are unviewable but within 24 hours you will see what the new Optimetrix Network site will look like and have a good indication of what services we have to offer, aswell as being able to join in and help build up our brand new community forum.

We have vacant positions in several area's, all information regarding Optimetrix jobs will be posted in our vacancies section on the new site. Alternatively you can contact me at mail@optimetrix.co.uk OR chat with me at tim_tricks@yahoo.co.uk to discuss matters further and in more detail.

Thanks to everyone who submitted their feedback via forums and email, and I hope that once I get this site back up to where we left off (hopefully by the weekend) I can generate plenty of interest in the new & forthcoming projects we have planned.

Regards

The new design is now viewable (IE has problems displaying the forums properley but . . .) and I really need other people opinions on it.

It just using a freely available skin for Joomla, along with a corresponding SMF forum skin, neatly wrapped (and fully integrated using the site reg system) inside the main site template.

Please either post below, mail me using our contact form or at mail@optimetrix.co.uk, or post on our forums your feedback and/or suggestions regarding our appearance, as content and our services are still under construction and is an on-going project.

Thanks for your time

I like the introduction and music, it made me really relaxed. Easy to navigate and very well laid out. Nice work!
