Heya all!

Well now its time to put myself to scrutiny with http://www.gigtrac.com, The site is aimed at local musicians and gig followers in south wales, although I do have plans to expand the site if demand is high enough.

I am looking for opinions on the following areas:
  • Design - The Colour Scheme and Layout
  • Usability - Can you find everything OK, is something in an awkward place? Is there something annoying you?
  • Any thing else - If you see anything else you want to comment on please do!

Great concept, but the design is a bit 'pink-heavy'.
Maybe the layout would be clearer if you put some light borders around distinct elements?
What's the response been like?

Hey Jamie,

I like your design. it’s something else. Very white but not boring.

The colours you use are (in my opinion) a bit to sharp (if that’s the right word), I would make them just a little bit softer. Not that they are so bad, but … I would do that.

And I would layout the form-elements in a grid (it just looks a bit messy at the moment) and make the form-border a little bit smaller, it’s really giant you now.

tomyithus - The response has been great so far, lots of local musicians around in the area and I used to work in a music shop so I have a lot of contacts in the area

bas - thanks for the input on the colour, I will have a think about toning them down slightly. And will structure the form slightly.

Thanks for your input.

Jamie

I tend to agree with tomythius. The design itself is okay, but the magenta and cyan reminded me of my first computer game...Falcon F16 Flight Simulator, in stunning four-color CGA. (Yeah, I'm 30, shaddap.)

I'd make the days with events stand out more in the calendar (maybe blue or cyan or something?) That way, people can see at a glance when the vents are.

I'd give you more of a review, but there's an IBM guy here now. I think it's a neat idea, though, and actually has original content (which puts it above 90% of sites).

Okay, I promised more of a review, and while I don't have much more to add, there are a few things.

1) Where are the gigs? Or to put it more accurately, where is a nice pretty Google Map that I can look at to tell me where the gigs are so that I can go watch?

2) A little more information on the bands would be nice...what type of band they are, their website, maybe some MP3 samples, ect.

I see you worked in a different colour for the event days in the calendar, although I do have concerns that it's a bit too subtle. I'm not really sure on that, but it may be.

3) Your HTML is borderline sexy. That's some sweet tableless layout stuff right there.

That's about all I've got.

Thank you, some nice stuff for me to think over while I am out drinking tomorrow.

1) Never considered google maps, might be worth a look into, although I have no idea how I am going to implement the gig locations yet. Should be a fun challenge.

sub part: Yeah, I was experimenting earlier on, still trying to find a colour that works with the overall calendar.

2)I have this planned for a later release, all in my head. Didn't want to go too complex too soon.

3)Why thank you, I take great pride in the sexyness of my HTML

  • Design - the color scheme is not bad but the layout is too... it just isn't caching the eye
  • Usability - it's easy to use yeah
  • Any thing else - the concept is really good

As for the design, if your trying to play off web 2.0, try searching google for some design references. Great idea though as I love music. Would love to see a great design.

Nice layout. Simple design and lots of free space making it easier to navigate. Good concept too. Superb use for a Calendar script. However try adding some different colors as well. There is too much of pink out there.

I find the colors soothing and I like the layout. Like others have said, it could use more information.
