I would love to have more information on some of these news items: like when I followed "read more" from the opening page about the DJ - what did Mays acutally say? And in general, I'd like to hear more detail about her experience after the incident.
On that page, I found that her pic was distorted. Same problem actually with the images on all the pages other than the home page. What I would do is go back in and only specify the height *or* width attributes in your image tags, but not both.
Most of the site looked pretty prefabricated to me: not enough to hold my interesst. Plus when the main links directed me to pages that held content (many did not) it was presented in such a sterile "here's what's in the database" sort of way.
I think that if someone is already dying to find the information you have to offer, you'll do okay with them. But in order to draw in and keep visitors who aren't sold on you just yet, I think you'll need to customize the design. (This is just my take: I hope it doesn't feel too brutal!) What direction you'll want to go in when/if you do that I imagine will depend on your own esthetics and what you think will appeal to your target audience.
Good luck with it,
