Hey guys and gals,

I took over these two sites about a month ago and have been working to learn as much about SEO as possible. I've spent my 40 hours a week reviewing articles and picking up tips from various places, including this board (thank you very much).

It is now time for me to take all of this knowledge and apply it to a redesign of the web sites. I was hoping that some of you would like to comment on the sites as they are. You might point out things I hadn't noticed or thought of. Once the sites redesigned, I would like to show it to all of you again and see what you think.

The sites are:

http://www.purepointgolf.com
http://www.golfswingguru.com

They essentially are the same site with minor tweaks. I think I might try to differentiate them from each other a little bit more on the redesign.

Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

Hi,

First off the pop-up ad has to go, really makes your site seem unprofessional. Also you should consider dividing your content into multiple pages rather than one really long page. As it is now most people won't even bother to scroll all the way down to the bottom to the order now button. Think of your customers as monkeys, you have to keep their attention with good content and good presentation, but at the same time you can't give them too much at once or they'll jump out the window flinging poo (I've seen this). Move your order now button right into the field of view of a user when they navigate to the page. Keep the details simple on the main page, and offer more in depth details in other pages.

Hi Joe,

not so much a review of your existing site but a suggestion for a potential addition. Have you thought about doing a video like this: http://www.www-golftip.com/?

I don't particularly like this one (I've seen better ones that this guy has done), but apparently he has had a lot of success selling the book he talks about. I guess the fact that it's not a polished sales pitch (or is it) makes him appear more sincere/believable.

The "pop up" is an opt in form thru AWeber.com. It adds people to our mailing list. It actually has been succesful for us so I don't see the boss approving me getting rid of it. I might be able to talk him into an in-line form solution though instead of the pop up or slide in like we have. Its a good suggestion though, thanks NullPointer.

I like the video idea. We've got video all over Google Video and YouTube (since we're selling DVD's, we have plenty of video samples available and actually a wealth of additional web ready video tips). It would be very easy to add a video bar to the side or a video on the page, blog-style. I'll definitely consider that. Thanks Gringo.

I appreciate the comments guys. Please keep them coming. Anything you do to help me out is just going to make the site better.

Thanks again.

Oh, as for the length of the text, they wrote these long form sales letters for the products that again, have worked well in converting customers. I think that's going to have to stay. My plan right now is to make our main pages much shorter (maybe 300 words total) and have those pages drive customers to the sales pages. The sales pages will be indexed too, I just think that the shorter pages will place better in the SERPs. That should give me the bext of both worlds.

Again, thanks for the comments so far.

I HOPE you're going to cut that into pieces. It is waaaaayyyy too looonnnnngg, too much scrolling. It just looks like a junk mail flyer.

That was the first thing I wanted to change, but, alas I'm not allowed. The boss likes the length and has conversion numbers to prove it. My best bet is to start a second sales page with less text. But this long content page will be there somewhere.

I know what you mean though. Trust me, I've been pushing for it!

I like the direct response style. You may make a lot of sales if you send lots of traffic to it.

Pages are way to long for me, I like to keep my content in the top 800px's

But monkeys don't play golf. The site is intended for serious people and describes a new technique in golf and, therefore, a long description is necessary for customers to understand what it is about. It is a lot easier to scroll down one page than to hop like a monkey over many pages.

To the webmaster: the site looks fine (except of the pop-up). Just don't spoil it.

Both of them look alright. I would ad a bit more color and make it a bit more inviting.
