hi,
im working on a layout/design/site. and i would like to know what people think of it, please focus on the layout and colours of it not content, its basically a blank canvas, just the layout at the moment and only has 2 pages the index and contact.
http://calm.dansgalaxy.co.uk
This is the first layout/design i have made completely using div and CSS
i have tried to make this as compatible as i cant and i ahve recieved quite a bit of help from ladynred in another thread as i have been developing it, and i still am.
anyway please look, tell me what you like and dislike and please tell me what i could do instead and not just list loads of bad stuff
Thanks
Dan

HI Dansgalaxy,
In my opinion the colours are much too bright. The yellow background hurt my eyes. The colours on your website did blend well together, having plenty of white is always a good thing too in my opinion. I would suggest making the background image of the turtle much shareper though. At the minute it looks pixelated
The layout looked good ~ and it is great to see people trying to make sites in CSS and make them validate. I am learning this myself and know just how difficult it can be.
I hope you don't think I am being too harsh
Cheers,
Will

Helo Dansgalaxy
Your Site is good
it would be better if you change the color combinations
and I found the links as "temporarily unavailable"
All the best

The problem with the site, is that it is not modern enough. It is important to keep up with the Internet to ensure maximum success from your website.
The images look as if they have been done in a fairly basic program such as paint - using, for example, PhotoShop, you can make images 100x better than any Paint images very easily.
The color scheme, again, is a little dated. If you are struggling with a color scheme, a great resource is http://kuler.adobe.com/
It offers free color schemes, and they are very good.
It's great to see that you validated your code, not a lot of people who post their sites in this forum do that.
Please take this post as constructive criticism - I would hate for you to think I was having a go
Also, if you would like some help with Photoshop images, I would be happy to do some for you, free of charge. If you are interested, then please PM me.

The background turtle is a little slow at loading, i never saw it until the second time i loaded the site. maybe ditch this and go for a plain white panel with a light dropshadow insted so your eyes don't get distracted from the page. You got the basics there, you just need to polish the design off now. To me, yellow/bright cream background always make a website look a bit cheap and flat. To me, the green and the yellow don't seem to be working that well together anyway. Maybe try a light blue, as it will work better with the green and is a bit more tranquil. (see attachment)

vkw91: thanks for comments helpful, and i know the colours are a bit iffy i been told this quite a bit its just i hadnt got round to playing with them till i find soemthing i like and that goes, i like the blue background on that image alot, is there a way to make css blend colours like that? or would i need a image?
also i like the turtle on that pic did you do it and if so could i maybe have a copy i could use that on the site looks kool
with regards to the images they are off the current site (the actual charitys site) which is obviously someone with frontpage going we need a site... and no clue with coding.. so all WYSIWYG and argh FRAMES!! hehe and i would aboslutly LOVE if someone could re-make the tortose animation and make it sharp and perhaps if possible a vector maybe in flash? if someone is prepared to take up that challenge i will be sure to put ur name on the site as the person who re-designed it!
And the button images were made by me (yes, that is as good as my graphic skills get really..) in fireworks.
thanks all i will TP you all, and no to people who said it all of u gave the type of feedback which is actually helpful!
Please feel free to give more feedback, and i will PM a couple of the people who posted.
Thanks,
Dan

I think the turtle is cute and catchy, however, most the images except the nav is blurry. IT is simple and clean but not much else. Keep at it and don't give up!

I like the turtle and the layout looks solid. I like the color scheme. the big thing is going to be getting the good content in there.

Hi,
I agree with Angelosanto, the page looks a little retro (unless thats the look your going for). The page seems slow to load too.

I love CSS
As mentioned you need to drop the huge background image and maybe tune up the menu images too. Page is terribly slow.
I love the cause. Let us know if you could use a bit of "pro-bono" help. We're into helping kids and have done a lot of charity work for abused kids here in Costa Rica.
