Hello

Please feel free to browse my website www.inpeakcondition.com I sell health and beauty products to the general public. I get between 30 and 70 unique visitors a day but I only get a few orders a week.

I dont have that many products but I cant afford to stock more if I dont get the sales in!

An SEO company have done a little bit of work and charged me the earth to put some stupid scrolling thing at the bottom of the homepage. I now have a new hosting Company who are fab at design and have a great SEO contact, but I want to get feedback on whats wrong with this website before I make drastic changes.

I am not technial in any way but know a bit about graphic design and spending money. I dont think the site is great but find it difficult to say whats wrong - thats where you come in!

Thanks for your time.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.

I toured around your site and tried selecting some products for checkout. I'm not offering a professional opinion but having set up my own site and thought about how it could be useful to me I offer the following humble suggestion:

I don't see anything wrong with the site and could only make one or two suggestions for small alterations.

However, my first thoughts are about why someone would choose to buy this kind of product over the internet, considering that postage is added on, and many products are available to them in a local health store where they can buy over the counter. Therefore perhaps if you haven't already done so you could think about focusing your target consumer, this might be for example for disabled or housebound people that can't visit a shop. You could then advertise this fact somewhere on the homepage. What I'm trying to say with this is to find a way of making your site and what you're offering unique or unusual in some way.

Sorry if I'm going over stuff you've already thought of, but I think personally that it's to do with the content of your site rather than the design, and I certainly wouldn't rush into spending more money on the latter thinking that this will increase your sales.

I'm guessing that with this kind of business idea you will have to be patient to build up visitor's confidence in buying and getting them to return to your site. Perhaps talk to some marketing people as I'm certainly not ne of those. Also I would check out sites offering similar products and see what they're offering. You probably already did this.

And if you sell these things off the internet too think how the site fits in with your overall business and how you can link it up, maybe from printed leaflets and certainly by establishing links from other, busier related sites. Again if it was me I would think about specializing and finding some niche that hasn't been covered.

I've been told it's a slow process.

As I said there are a couple of things I thought of that you could consider for adding to the site. The first is perhaps a few lines of text at the beginning, that captures the interest, doesn't necessarily have to be about the products but something that maybe makes people think about buying these products online, again its a marketing idea. It could be a quote from a customer or a very short anecdote, or anything at all that might make the home page stand out as unique and make people remember it. I suppose this could also be an image, perhaps a changing slideshow but not of pictures of your products cos you have enough of those. Maybe medium sized pictures of beaches or forests.

One thing I'm told attracts visitors back to the site is some kind of interactive element, for example enter some details about their lifestyle and they get back some kind of personal profile or recommendation of a product(s) for them to try. But I guess that's a little complicated and I don't know how much it would cost. I notice you have offers. I think they are a great idea.

Finally the jump menu on the home page contained only a !2!, some error there.

Have you thought about putting a search field in? People are lazy. I almost always use the search field straight away if browsing sites for something specific.

Hope some of this was useful,

woodstock

Hi,

I like the look of the site, and the feel of it coincides with what you are selling. As someone who sells pet supplies, I see no problem with selling things online that can be purchased locally. We are selling convenience, and that comes with a price.

The navigation tabs at the top seem bunched together, but are logical and useful. Your "About Us" page doesn't contain much info about you, so you might want to add a little something there.

Otherwise, great job and good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions so far, they have been useful. More would be appreciated as my designer is due to start work any day now and more criticism would help.

Thanks in anticipation!

I personally like the site and am not sure why you want to make changes. The colours are good and it is professional looking. The 'scrolling thing' isn't obtrusive and the site is easy to navigate.

Its nice, worry about your content and links as this will get you more visitors, 60-70 unique visitors a day is low, i get about 900 unique visitors a day and sell about 4-5 items per day so you can see if you only get 490 visitors per week 2-3 sales is about right.

try to get listed in dmoz and the yahoo directory then start exchanging links with as many people as you can, and again add content as search engines love good articles....

Thanks Jellybabys

If I was having 900 unique visitors a day, it would scare me if I was only getting 5 orders a day. Maybe thats the normal ratio but if 900 people went into a high street shop and only 5 purchased, does that mean there is a problem.

I honestly didnt realise how different having a ecomm website was to just having a shop or mail order catalogue.

I agree - content - I need to have some "interesting facts/health information" on there.

I listed with dmoz as soon as I launched the site.

Thanks again for your comments.

Its not what i call a problem having 900 visitors a day its just a set back in my business plan, reason why i set up the site to sell small baby items with very little capital and thought it would not really take off, over the past 5 months the site have gotten busy but im still at the stage where i didn't expect it to take off so did not stock for it.

90% of my visitors look for clothes and i have very little to offer, i am planning to add a large range of them over the summer but with limited funds and it would take a large outlay, so it will have to be a slow process.

So as you can see its a bonus to have that many visitors a day and to know what they want, i could have done it the other way and added a load of products and spent a large amount of money just to find out that i did not get any hits and crash and burn like many other ecommerce website.

Ps

Don't forget to get an ssl as most people will expect it, i would : )..

Thanks Jellybabys

My web host said, we need to know why people arent buying so we plan to use a pop up or something similar to say "did you find what you were looking for". Also, she has set me up with www.statcounter.com to enable me to see who is coming from where and what they are searching for to reach me. Its a really good site.

I agree, these things take time. There are lots of products I would like to buy but until I get the money in from sales I cant afford to stock more.

We'll get there!
