Hi guys!

Here is a prototype for my web design site. Tell me what you think. I appreciate that is is very much in its infancy - none of the links work and stuff, but if I could get some comments mainly to do with the design and layout, then that would be great.

Its temporary address is: http://www.tacklingfibro.co.uk/wicko-studios/

Thanxalot,

John

Well, to recommend the site, you need to put what info you want us to enter. Like name or email address. You just have two blank boxes there. I am sure that your script requires you to put those in a specific order so let us know which by putting it next to the corrosponding box.

Third paragraph down on the left hand side you mis-spelled Organization. It is a "z" instead of an "s".

Other than that, it is a good look. Very impressive for a 16 year old. Good work.

The "z" or "s" depends on what part of the English speaking world you are designing for. It's similar to colour and color and stuff like that.

I would say one little thing. Which box are you supposed to input your email address and which is for your name?

Looks pretty cool though!!

Thanks very much for your comments - its really nice that other people like what I have done.

The recommend form is just one of many things I haven't done yet. While on this topic, does anyone know of a cgi script I could use for this purpose?

I believe organization can be spelt either way. I personally think that 'organization' is more interesting than 'organisation' because not that many words have a 'z' in them. That's my only reason!

I'll keep working on it, and post an update in a week or so, by which time it should be pretty much done.

Regards,

Wicko

Hi wicko

Design is really good and original.
I would Reccommend putting everything in the middle of the page.

Nice start - I agree with the other posters about the spelling, labeling the boxes, etc., but still, a very nice, clean site.

Only 16? You've got a good start on a great future.

Hi Montero

I don't know what you mean by "I would Reccommend putting everything in the middle of the page." I have checked on 1024*768 resolution, and the whole page is centred, as I intended it to be. Could you please explain what you mean. Thanx

Wicko

ps. Thanx Riptide

aha - i see - the vertical middle. Hmm. Well - its got to be optimised for 800*600. If it were moved down the page, it would look silly on 800*600 because of an unexpected gap at the top. So, other than add more content, and maybe spread it out a bit more with line-spacing, I don't see what I can do to centralize it more.

if you put the whole thing in a table, then just centralise it in the table then it wont matter about the screen res as it will automatically adjust...

<table width="100%" height="95%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td align="center" valign="middle"> CONTENT </td>
</tr>
</table>

I suppose. Will this still work if I were to have a page with a lot of content that was longer than the page height?

I like the overall look of the site, but as with others, having a 1024x768 resolution, it looks like it's sitting in the top right and not centered.

I'd highlight or mouse hover the two links (contact and examples) to make them stand out more.

Great job!

Thanks ler329.

I do have a mouseover highlight for the links, but it is far far too faint, I know. I'll change it asap.

As for the positioning, when you say its 'top-right', do you mean that the whole site is touching the top right corner of the screen (which it shouldn't be, it should be centralised) or do you mean that its a bit off-centre (which is what I intend). Just checking!

Hi Wicko, looks pretty good. I like to overall layout, its very unique and makes you curious as to what your business does. I would think about putting in the name and password for the sign in box. You have missing links for Portfolio and Contact Us. I like the font.

first impression : surfing site, i guess the font and the pictures...
i dont think dividing the two chunks of text get the job done. should also probably photoshop the center red picture...tone down the brightness of the red to match the red in your main logo.
I dont think having the borders goin around all the pictures etc work for it either.

ill put down anything else i find

Thanks wonpwn, I'll have a look at toning down the red pic. I disagree about the borders: I think they're an integral part of the design.

Thanks all for your comments. I've been bogged down with school work for the past week or so, and I've not been able to work on my site as much as I would have liked. I have altered as appropriate all the things you've been suggesting, and that's been really helpful to me.

Regards,

Wicko
