I think the color scheme could be made a little more attractive. Also, the categories are just so diverse. From Entertainment to Web Development? I think you should focus one one category and try to target that audience.

As for the categories, as far as I understood this is the forum to talk about anything. Maybe this forum will be easier to promote on condition that you will have really interesting and challenging topics there, not just an idle talk of anything.

As for the promotion, try to attract some specialists in your forum categories, i.e. web development, sports etc. so that they answered questions or posted some interesting and amusing topics. Also fill in your forum with some useful information that will attract people's attention and make them give their opinion and contribute to the board.

I second the idea about the color change. I do think you should try and have a forum that is more specifically based on one thing.

From a design point of view (im not going to touch the content) I would recomend the following:

Firstly, the logo needs re-working - the fonts you have used dont compliment the design and the image of the globe isn't amazing. However I think that the main problem with the header is actualy the background. It degrades the logo making it look worse than it really is.

Secondly, when you look at the page, you don't see the header and the logo because your attention is sucked in by the attention seeking yellow forum. This is not a good trait because visitors to your site will not see what the forum is about.

Speaking of colour schemes,

I suggest that you change the colour scheme to something a little more user friendly, something along the lines of this forum perhaps (blue generaly works well). I would give you specific values to use but I have done it for too many people - and as one says: "If you get one everyone will want one" - Sorry

I am just curiouse did you pay for that script? because phpbb.com is free! If I was a major forum I would mabey upgrade but if your just starting out I suggest using phpbb.
