First off, I am a new member of this site. I see lots of constructive and intelligent threads here, so I thought I would join in the fun.
I am beginning that long journey towards 'web designer' status. To start, I would really appreciate some general feedback on my first site in terms of colors and front page layout. This is just a silly little personal page for sharing photos with family and friends. I linked to a screenshot instead of the active page at this time due to creaky load times and complete failure in Firefox. I dont want a formal 'menu sytem' as I find those distracting.
YOU might find menu systems distracting, but visitors EXPECT some kind of navigation system.

The link takes me to a full screenshot of the images and content. Not sure why you only see the image. I may add a navigation system that is not overbearing. Dont know why the 403 error is coming up.
People, I do believe it was meant to be a design MOCKUP - which explains the image-only display. I can't see it so ...

Okay, to make a long story short, I apparently cannot link directly to an image on my web server. I need to create a temporary page that links to the image. The screenshot will take a minute to load, but it should be viewable by all now.
there are empty black columns on the left and right side of the image.
are they part of your design? it looks weird.
the remaining part of the site looks very nice.
