Well, when I clicked on the link, it was the last thing that I was expecting to see! I was waiting for something full of old-style, fan website, type layouts. With lots of parchment style edges and stuff. It's certainly not that.

Your website is very clean cut, it's attractive and professional. However, this clean "cut-ness" does make it feel very impersonal. It just looks like any old template that you can pull from any free template site on the Internet. Further, your header, the picture with the people in it, needs to be a different size, as it looks out of place with the image on its immediate left. The yellowy/orange at the top doesn't really go with the rest of the layout, it seems a little out of place.

It's not bad, but it's not great.

How can you get 'personal' with a site about chemistry, physics, math and astronomy ??? It doesn't get any dryer than those subjects. I think it's actually quite a good look for the subject matter and I disagree about the orange, I think it works with the rest of the color palette as a contrast and being in the top-right it catches the eye for scan, skim and scour (how people read).

I am a proponent of table-less layouts and CSS for presentation. I won't give any 'points' for tables. You've got CSS started, take it all the way, your audience will thank you for it.

It appears you've got some validation errors, looks like an extra table tag stuck out on the end of your BODY tag.

You do have some excellent content and overall it's pretty good design-wise.

It just looks no different from any other site really. Like I said, it looks like a template, no different from a thousand sites that all use the default Mambo or Joomla theme, or alternatively, those sites that never change from phpBB subBlue theme on phpBB forums. It's just a bit plain and dull.

Colours are a simple matter of taste, and I find that the orange detracts from the main content, and doesn't tie in with the header texts or anything else. It's just a spash of orange/yellow. I know that I would attempt some form of integration into the main layout with that colour.
