gallery

I'm still working on this enhancement to my gallery. It adds Google Maps directly into the gallery, instead of in a new window. I've added a centerpoint to the map, along with coordinate readout, zoom, and area dimensions below the map. I've got a single thumbnail image on top of the map, clicking on it gives you the full size image. I still have to work on the shadow/border for the thumbnail and put in the others. This is a work in progress, and is not currently hooked up to the rest of the site.

Google Maps is a very powerful tool!

Pretty nice start. I think your on the right track. I'm not sure how google maps work but it seems that the browser continues to transfer even after loading. Could have been on my end too.

This could be a really good tool to learn to incorporate into a variety of sites.

Very cool. It kinda froze my computer at first but that could be due to the amount of crap I have running on my system right now. Great idea!! Will be a perfect tool for a lot of online businesses to address their location to their visitors.

Looks very cool - I might suggest though some kind of advice on minimum requirements for viewing - at home I didn' t have a problem with it but at work I have an antiquated PII w/a dial-up connection & it was very difficult to view.

^^ Your work needs shutting down lol.

Anyway, very cool. However, I don't think that this is really in need of any review.

Here's the latest of this work in progress...

http://www.pixeldevelopment.com/show...er=gallery.asp

It shows the thumbnail and description in a separate area (except A & B), and a satellite zoom below.

Unless you have a very small map, this is about as quick as you're going to get with Google Maps. It's fairly reasonable when you compare it to a page with a dozen or so large thumbnails.

I've visited a few large Google Map pages, with lots of pushpins that really tax a system.

BTW: All Google Maps allow you to double click to re-center at a particular point.

Not exactly. I can go to the Google Map page and have no problem with my system whereas with this page my computer freezes for a bit. There is a clearly a problem with the site that could be resolved.

Aside from maps.google.com, all sites are required to use the map data using the Google Maps API. While this JavaScript file is slower than the code on maps.google.com, it's the proper way to use Google's map data.

A fairer comparison would be with another maps site, for example:
