Hello All!

Its been ages since Ive had something to get reviews for! Ive recently completed this site for a client in Kent, and she is really pleased with the design, which is my most important aspect initially. I still have additional keywords and descriptions to put into the HTML but overall its completed.

This is a flash site, so I accept all the ususal comments regarding that *laughs*,
but I was interested in speed on dial-ups, overall layout, ease of use etc.

The payment system is nochex, which Im new to, but would you as a user find it easy to purchase from this site?...

Are there any areas of the site you feel are over/under done?

All comments/crits appreciated!

Thanks again!
Scotia

Its simple but it did take a few minutes to fully figure out what the site has to offer, the graphic that grows when you first go to the page is a little blocky around the edges, if you can make that a little sharper without making the file size to large that would make it look very nice. I like the fact that you don’t have a ton of links as advertisements which is what you see a lot on these kinds of websites. All in all I say 7/10

1. colors honey. your lines are too near your background. since inside the main layout is the same as the background, it kinda look like one. maybe darker background and different color for the bg of the layout. you have to stress out what you want your viewers to look at first.
2. i dont see the need to do the banner in flash. you can do it in gif.

I suggest if you are still not good in creating your own ideas, look for inspirations but dont rip. ^_^

Ello trouble, a clickable would be nice...gawd women!...lol

http://www.gypsyjenny.com

In the header, where the words flash in and out, they don`t look centred and move to fast, I would add some small graphic with this text for each name.

The main graphic is nice, but I would expect to see a nice introduction with mixed graphics on the main page, the graphic at the moment says nothing to me, other than nice work.

The menu area needs shading as it blends in to much to the main part and doesn`t look separated as a menu.

The content coming from the menu looks good, not sure about all the bold text though.

In the contact area, IMHO a contact form would be better for both the user and client, it would keep spammers away and the user can send questions straight from site.

The payment area NOCHEX, not sure why you`ve gone with these, they use the same method as PayPal and given this, PayPal has many more members, that wouldn`t need to join on site there and then, as they would have an account, if not they would of heard of PayPal more than NOCHEX.

Hope this helps you trouble, you done nice work.

Wow, I love those fonts on the menu! They remind me of the times when I used to play the PC game Diablo.

Anyway, don't you think there's too much of a gap at the top? Your flash could also use some preloaders ("loading, please wait" stuff).

I like the fonts too and in some way, the athmosphere on the site is simply the right one. I am not so sure about the combination of the light blue of the sky and the dark blue of the background. I consider my own design capabilities as pretty good, but it does NOT include Flash, so you make me jealous with this :P..

Hiya Folks!
Thanks for all your comments as usual!

@ kydesignsnet : Thanks so much, I hadnt realised the starting graphic looked blocky, do you mind me asking what screeen res/monitor size do you run?....its clear as a bell on my sceen, so Ill need to address this one! Thanks! As for adverts, I hate them, so try avoiding them like the plague. This client is really straightforward and runs her own show, thankfully !

@ ionicwings : Thanks, but "colours honey"?...Im not *quite with you here*...If you mean the backround is the same as the fore, then yip, there may be a point, except Im not sure where else you would look on a website if the inner area is the only bit with content?>...As for using gifs, Im sure you have a point there, except that the file size of an individual gif on an HTML page only offers a minor decrease in file size, and less flexibility (ie 256 colours) whereas png files, in Flash have 30bit capacity (well actually its 40bit, but monitors dont see that definition yet)...and the while site is flash, not just the banner.

*I suggest if you are still not good in creating your own ideas, look for inspirations but dont rip. ^_^ *,
......erm, my sentiments exactly, which is why every site I create is original, they copy nothing else and no-one elses work. Every logo graphic is hand built or drawn, and every image are photographs Ive taken, and then blended in Photoshop, I appreciate this is just a wee comment, but considering I *crings at blowhardiness* win awards for my graphic design and orignality worlwide, it kinda made me *puff*!..
It might have been an idea to "check me out first"! That could really offend someone like me, *laughs*
(www.palegallery.com www.palegallery.net)

@pixieface : *shucks, thanks for adding a link fur me!*....DOH! lol
Yip, I know the words are offside, the idea of a small card face or something as a graphic next to it really appeals tho, (except bumps up file size for the index.swf?)...Hmm, I know exactly what you mean about the main graphic, I built it for her logo for her bizcards, and she was keen to have it as the main focus, originally I had her "profile" page as the front runner. THe menu area has lighterlines to "remove" it, but someone else commented on this too, so it may be my monitor gamma is up quite high?...ideas? Contact form WOULD have been far better, but time and money to be honest!....Her budget was tiny for a full flash site with payment options....hmm, NOCHEX, she opted for this because it carries only a 2% charge as opposed to PAYPALS 4% levy, and clients dont actually have to sign up with NOCHEX at all, unless they are placing payments of over £100, (which at the cost of her readings they wont be) its a cheaper system for seller/buyer etc.....lol, and you ALWAYS help! Thanks buddy!

@ Onur : Thanks, I loved the font too!....I thought it lended itself ideally to the genre of site, (Plus Im a Myst/Riven/Exile player so have loads of strange fonts installed!..*smiles* Your right about the preloaders, to be honest?....I forgot until after the first intro was done, when you then shift frames in flash to accommodate a "forgotten preloader", it pixelates your "already made and unique" grpahics, so I thought for now, until the client budget increase, it would suffice...*groan*....Im going straigh to **** for that thought!...lol

@ flogshop : Cheers, thats really nice, I like the colours...I admit it, plus Purple is the strongest colour for chakras of the body....
@Sietse : Thanks very much, the bg colour is actually purple, (#330066) really deep, which is why the paler violets worked well, (but, I can see what you mean about the top right corner where the bluer version meets the background) I only started playing with flash in October last year, prior to that for 8years Ive been an HTML hand coder, and really made good use of it! (www.palegallery.net is my "hobby site")..and Id love to see some of your stuff too!...sounds great!!!!..

@mortalmadman: lol, I know it aint "awesome" but thats a really nice thing to say!....but she's not read my cards yet!..lol...however, the client is over the moon, so that makes me happy!

@grammapecos : Thanks a million, thats a great comment!...*blush*....I think you are all right about the space at the top, although on my monitor it centres the content smack bang in the middle of screen, but Im on a 19inch, running 1280*1024 res, so maybe thats it?

@fusionfx : Thanks, I wondered how well it loaded on other machines, obvioulsy my machine cached it with each update, so it can be hard to tell, (plus Im on cable) ...by "some time" how long are we talking in comparison to other full flash sites?....Thanks!

Well, Im so glad I "live here" and not at some other forum where no-one bothers!....Thanks so much for all your input folks, its great!

Cheers, scotia

Text hard to read. Pages load very slowly on 56k modem. Interesting site but if i stumble on it i will leave very fast. The flash maybe necesary but please make the content readable I have got tears inmy eyes. Sorry about that. The first impression matters a lot. But here everything is dark. Or is it that it goes with the theme ?

Hiya salele, thanks for your post!

Can I ask what gamma you use for your monitor?...Im trying to work out a "general" scheme...(I know folks always say it) but...my monitor displays these colours very differently, and I might have to look into this, but for "everything" to be dark is very strange, there are at least 45% colour changes between the hex colours used, which would render most screens interpretable at the VERy least. I can understand the pages loading slowly on 56k, (although the largest page is only 110k, which if you interpret that as 5 images at 20k each, really isnt "heavy", even in comparison to HTMl, but I am very interested in load times, so thank you!!!!!)
Absolutely agree that first impression matter the utmost, but Id like to find a general format for monitors that will aloow us ALL as designers to "pre-realise" what our colours might appear on say a low gamma/brighter (mac) etc...all these are great comments, thanks very much!

Cheers, scotia

I must say very nice looking site.. def fits... it has a real gypsy feel (oh and whoever couldnt figure out right off what this site was must be on some seriously heavy drugs since the name is GYPSYjenny.com but i could be wrong)

Overall I loved the site the loading on DSL is ofcourse fast however having the card formations in a pop-up i dont like..since I have pop ups blocked and im sure lots of people do and im bettin some of those people have no clue how to un-block a pop-up but thats just my opnion and this is a run on sentance

hope this helps

worked fine(minus pop-ups) in FireFox w/ Windows XP

Nice site but I would have to agree with the post above - I don't like the font. The color and size make it hard to read. The white isn't so bad, but the purple is a killer. Also, in my opinion the font doesn't match the site very well. I know its difficult because you really only have 10 or so fonts to choose from before they start to default, but I would rethink the font or add some CSS tricks to make it look more interesting and accessible to all. Other than that it is a nice site.
