We are a group of web professionals who have newly put together a site where we give away website makeovers to non-commercial websites in a monthly contest. We always appreciate hearing peoples thoughts and suggestions about our websites. We never use templates, everything is 100% original.
Go ahead and take a look:

Erm, well its good that you give away the website makeovers for free.
Are you still in the process of setting up your own site?
It looks like something from the 90's at the moment!
Good look, make sure you post here when you've completed any websites.

Hello. I know you stated you do not use templates, all sites are custom designed. But you may want to take at TemplateMonster.com just for ideas for web designs. Once you get a feel for cutting edge web designs, you can still custom design the site yourself. Honestly, I don't think the winner of your contest would be too enthused about the free website after they review your sample sites. Thanks!

it's a great thought... here's some constructive ideas...
1. the background is cool, but in this new day and age... sites just don't look like that... it looks more like a power point project...
2. if you keep the orange, that red is really hard to read on top of it...
3. You need a new banner
4. Lose the font face... you need something more contemporary... simple but nice and easy to read.
Overall, I'm afraid that the site looks like it was made by a newbie with a free webhosting package from Geocities that just learnt how to use a WYSIWYG editor. I'm sorry and don't take all those the wrong way, it's intended to be constructive. By the way, aside from the actuall design of your site, I think what your doing is really great and a really good idea! Good luck buddy!

it's a great idea, very nice of you and so on..
I quite like the style of the site, it suits what you're doing.
I'd try and use a different font for the content though, perhaps arial or veranda.. Apart from that it's quite cool. it's pretty user friendly.
Not too sure if I'd want you to makeover my site though...

It's been a busy week. Thank you to everyone who submitted your websites. However, due to the submission load, we're still in the process of selecting a winner for November. We've just finished upgrading to version 2 of our site. We're ironing out some bugs, but other than that we're looking pretty good. More content is on the way so be sure to check back for updates in the weeks to come.

woa - kinda harsh stuff - but ya i checked out the stuff you do... just keep at it!! Maybe try doing just free websites without the give away - to build up your portfolio... i also suggest not using gradientts that are too contrasting... good luck!!

Great idea for free users... Poor design, i suggest more hot colours (black and red are too strong...)
Have a nice work...

Freewebsitemakeover.com was recently awarded the Nominee Award by Nodus Design.
This is what they had to say:
"Your sites graphics are well integrated into the main architecture and
create a distinctive atmosphere for the user. The solid layout and
consistent navigation provide a stable environment in which to view the
well organised content. Congratulations on creating a great website!"

I dont like your site at all, not clean, not professional and overall an eye sore. I HATE to be so harsh, im sorry but im going to be honest. While you may know something about programming the graphics DO NOT look professional.. they look well....ugly, im sorry.

Mr. Taylor,
I find your post to be unduly negative. I don't know why you feel the need for this tone, but judging by your own website I can only imagine why. And if we are to hold your site to a professional level it is rather sub-standard -- the same could be said for many of the websites of the posters in this thread. Your post was too emotional to have any constructive value, you did not even steady yourself enough to spell correctly. Rather, it seemed more like a knee-jerk reaction and a poor attempt at bashing. We realize that our website (freewebsitemakeover.com) may not be to everyone's personal liking, but there is a difference between stating your personal preference and being down-right unreasonable in your criticism. Fellow professionals who have reviewed our site have responded positively to our design. The posts in this thread, on the other hand, have been overwhelmingly negative and of little substance.
Good day

I don't mean to be rude and I truly wanted to go against the grain and give your site some good reviews, because I like to root for the bad guy, but your site made that painfully difficult.
I'm somewhat a newbie (6 months) in web design and I should be the last to say anything bad about another person site. My site needs work as well. If I could give some constructive criticism: Use Adobe Photoshop or better graphic design tool. Intergrate .php or other scripting. Kill the font. Do away with the black background and the gradulent colors. I actually like the banner but I think it could work with another site design...the site design just doesn't grab me.
And if I'm going to criticize your site then it's only fair you know what my site looks like: ifoundgeorge.com. That's one of my sites. It's not the best, but I'm okay with it. Feel free to criticize me as well.
I respect what you are doing as well as your creative energy, but maybe it's not a bad idea to use templates. Please don't take anything the wrong way. Everyone needs to start somewhere! I remember my very first web design...it was much worse and a embarassment to all web designers.
Wish you the best of luck!

I don't mean to be offensive, and I admit my typing is bad.. i type VERY fast and i have alot of typos. All of my reviews are to the point. I am only trying to help you.
If you want me to be more consructive.. I will do so now.
Your website isnt valid HTML 4.01 ( http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...emakeover.com/)
You have alot of errors in your source code, you should fix em
You use the same JS function in each page, yet you dont have just one page containing it and have that linked to your site
try this.. copy and paste the js in your source code to notepad. Save the file with teh .js extension. Put this in a folder on your server that is blocked by spiders because search engines HATE js. in your actual html file, use <script src="js/nameoffile.js" type="javascript"></script>
I spent about 2 min cleaning up your code and got it down 2kb, thats not bad....
Your site IMO has alot of work left if your willing to put inthe time. I would use CSS and not tables for this site.. it just perorms better.
GL and sorry if i offended you

Mr. Kebron,
I'm agreed with Taylor (once more), your site isn't professional and I know what I say : I've criticized a lot of flash sites on another forum and at least I can notice the difference between a pro site and an amateur site. Then don't be upset because of this critic ! We aren't important to you so if you don't care of the crits, that's your own business. After all, you came here to get crits...
On the other hand, I like the fact that it seems you made an effort for the design and it doesn't look very bad ! The colours used here are ok, there's just some parts which are a bit too thick but it's ok. Despite this, the design doesn't look professional sorry. Well, you'll do better the next time.

The site looks ok I guess. But then whats wrong with the critecism, you put your site up for review and you can't complain if you get negative reviews, you can't just expect posotive ones.

Take this as constructive critism.
You might want to make a remake, as the only thing i see is good is the banner, which isnt really good.
It really looks "cheap".
I wouldnt want a makeover from someone who needs a makeover themselfs.
I really really like the idea, but the design must be better.
Sorry for being so harsh, but good luck with it
