are you applying for the webmaster-talk award? or do you just want a full review considering some suggestions...?

whatever the case. here is my review...

layout - the layout is clean and wonderful, no problems there.

graphic design - good, no problems there either. the only thing i would suggest is a better logo.

color scheme - yes, wayy too bright. lower down on the yellow. first off it doesnt seem to go with the fishing theme. green and blue often do. try green and a duller shade of yellow, that should work.

search engine optimization - good, you should be able to get in the search engines. you have good content and a good design.

e-commerce effictiveness - ok here is where i have some problems. i suggest you put the months specials on the front page as thumbnails. set the price really really big! and a good description along with a picture to go with it. also, you might want to ad boat classified to your page, maybe you can earn a commissions rate off of that.

here is some things i reviewed that you didnt mention...

navigation - i kind of like it but then again i kind of dont. its something that really doesnt attract too much attention to me.

colors again - ok now its getting annoying. i was forced to close down your site because of the brightness at this point of the review. again, try a duller shade of yellow and some green added into it.

layout again - i have some things to add to the layout. i mentioned this in the e-commerce effectiveness section.
add thumbnails of the great offers in the middle. really big price, a picture and a good description will guarantee sales.
try to also persuade customers into buying your goods and services. give them a reason why your fishing equipment is soo much better than just going down to the fishing store down my block and purchasing there.

font - the font seems to be good, thumbs up there.

Overall: 7

work on some minor details and you got it set! other than that

Thanks ghettocars -

Is there really a webmaster-talk award?

color: Some people say they like it, some people don't. I think it depends on the monitor (and your visual threshold). The colors are the company colors, the owner wanted those particular colors in the site because it matches our packaging and letterhead... but I think I just have to tone it down because we're losing visitors.

SEO: I've spent a lot of time on this.

navigation: What is it you don't quite like? The hierarchy, or the menu?

colors again: That's what I was afraid of!

layout again: Here is my dilemma. Selling the stuff is good for me. My commission comes from online sales for doing the site. But I also want return visitors, to build up reputation, which is good for the company... which eventually is good for me. I've thought about this - two approaches - one suggested by others is to make the front page look like a storefront, with prices and links to more information if they want. But the other, is to make the site more informational in nature, to convince the vendors they want to buy it to sell to others. Berkley fishing, and Kenmore (you know like dishwashers) does it this way. Their sites are informational, and they resell to other vendors (like Kmart and Sears).

I'm working on a merged approach at the moment...

As you might notice I've been working on ways to get return customers, by adding a chat forum, moon phase calendar... still more to come... (had a temporary members page which was kind of ugly so I took it down)

I won't stop until I get an Overall of 10, with 2 thumbs up.

thats the spirit!

yes tehre is a webmaster-talk award. if you wish to apply for it just say so and ill tell the WT team, plus ill put in a good word for you

as for your little dilemma, i think you pretty much have solved it.

my suggestion was to combine them both! and as i kept reading i noticed that your working on that.
i say you put up the prices up front and call it the week special, every week change the prices and the products around a bit so visitors will keep checking every single week to see the new prices.
the moon calendar is also a great idea. maybe the tide weather and stuff will also be great.
and also making your site informational would be good, maybe if you offer the store front idea towards the top, and the information towards the bottom. that would work out.

thats how you get return visitors.

other than that, im happy to help

Pop-n-tube section - background? I'm guessing you're talking about the background info on the lure, as in the content, not the image right?
