So here's what I have "so far":

Visually, I want the header to be more interesting. I'm thinking of adding tabbed navigation at the top. I want it to look kind of comic book/video game in terms of styles and composition. I think the colors work pretty well, though.

Honest opinions on what elements you currently like would be awesome. Any ideas on how to improve would be great as well. Go all out, and don't hold back.

One unmovable point: I'm keeping the illustration.

I like the logo (illustration and text) a lot. I would add some smaller details though especially in areas like the side bar and the blue background on the post titles. Maybe some light shading or gradients just to give it some depth.

Yes, tabbed menu is a good idea, I would also change the font of the logo, the illustration is nice as it is, and as well you need better side bar, also ad a little space between title and date of post, just few pixels... 5-10 pixels

It's just my personal blog. I think yeah, I'll go for the tabbed menu of some sort.

LOL I love the cats. The site is a 8 out of 10 for me, I'd like to see something more with the menu on the left, it just looks like you could make it more user friendly maybe use larger fonts and bullet points.

I like the concept - I think that you could improve your design by extending the sidebar colour from top to bottom on the right hand side, even by having a gradual colour from top to bottom would work.

your blog design really looks nice and your blog post is really interesting and the color scheme really match! I think that you really done a great job!
