I've been asked to re-design (and re-write) this site:

www.incord.com

I already have some ideas so I'm throwing this in front of the forum to see if my ideas are in-line with what others think.

Couple points:

1) I am aware there are probably some standards issues, which I plan on addressing.

2) There are tables in this site which I also plan to convert to div's.

3) The main audience for this site are folks in the architecture/engineering fields, so the simple, angular, white background look is one element the client wants to maintain.

Again, I have some of my own ideas on how it can be improved but I'd be interested in hearing what fellow designers would do. Thanks!

Heres what I would do:

Do it your way and then, you know, ask the client, because it's their website. They do want to proof things before confirming, usually.

Asking other designers with such a blank statement will generally get you "WTF!?" ideas. Designers have different styles, and let's face it, I'm not much for the whole: "everything MUST be an image!" thing. I like simplicity. Where as other designers enjoy the "Web 2.0" look and some enjoy reflection effects and others (lesser designers...) employ flash.

Up to you Houdini.

Thanks Corey for the feedback. Understandably, this type of review request will yield subjective, "artistic measure" responses but I also think there is some value in getting a variety of opinions, especially when considering that the changes need to stay within the confines of a "no frills" approach.

On other words, what would folks do to a site where one of the requirements was to not go overboard with graphics enhancements?

That that's even an issue makes me wonder...I would focus on typography and structure and color theory.

To start I would put it on a faster server. The images seem to be taking a long time to load. Perhaps this is related to issue 1 you mentioned.

It is looking a bit out dated, I would work on a whole new concept in valid xhtml/css
