I am the developer and cofounder of NameBuySell.com and I would like your feedback on our new domain name exchange site. My brother Michael Collins and I agonized over what rules the domain should have, prices, affiliate program, the whole package, with the goal of producing the ideal domain name exchange site. Here's what we came up with:

Completely free to buyers. Afternic wants $49 just to let you make an offer that might not be accepted? Crazy! We want to encourage offers, not run them away.

Small annual membership fee for sellers (1.95 now as an introductory price, going to 4.95 on Monday). Low commission 5% (effectively 2.5% if the buyer discovers your name from your parked page or one of our "this site for sale" affiliate banners). Great Domains charges 15%, Afternic 10%.

Other bennies: An easy to use site. Auction rules designed specifically for domain names.

But I think our killer feature is that we are the only exchange that pays its members to park their domain names. We pay 50% commissions (no room for 3rd-party programs with a 50-50 split!) on seller membership fees and sales fees generated by buyers that you refer. You can refer from your parked domain name or a live web site.

What do you think? What more would you like?

Roger Collins

Hello,

Welcome to Webmaster-Talk

Your first post seems more of an Ad than anything else, but since you may have truly been looking for feedback, I will be moving it to the site review forum (if you wanted feedback on your site, that was the place for it).

We do offer $20 a month text link advertisnig in each of our forums if you would like an Ad here.

Thanks for understanding and I hope to see you around and participating in other discussions.

Thanks for the welcome. You run a tight ship and that is a good thing. So much junk out there. I will check this site out seriously because I've been looking for a substantive webmaster forum for a long time.

However, just a little caution in way of feedback about your own forum here: you can take a good thing too far. Trying too hard to prevent free-loading advertisers (presumably like me) can worsen the content of the site. I suggest if a post has new, interesting, and relevant information - even if it profits someone - let it ride!

I think my post should have provoked serious discussion on many things. What auction rules are best for domain names? What is a reasonable commission? How are Afternic and Great Domains doing with your names? How are they doing period? What makes you think you can make any money at 2.5% if Afternic and Great Domains need 10% and 15%? Why should we trust your affiliate program?

A fellow at sitetutor.net (am I allowed to mention other webmaster forums?) asked why the 9.95 minimum sales fee and has us seriously thinking about that - had not considered the $20 names much.

All this would be more relevant in the domain name categories.

I know what kind of superficial spamvertisements you want to ban and I don't think my post was one of them. No hard feelings, though. I agree completely with your motivation to keep the forum of high quality.

Best regards,
Roger

You have a point and I agree with many of your comments.
The reason I moved the thread here was that you seemed to be looking for feedback regarding you site rather than those domain questions in general.

You site looks nice and I actually found a domain on your site that I am very interesed in.

The problem was not that you were posting questions about domains and have your own domain site. It was how you wrote the post. It was more saying how great your site was (and it very well may be), with little questions in particular.

If you posted these questions you had in you second post (without referencing your site) it would have been appreciated. Those ARE good questions...

Anyway, I do hope you remain a member and participate in our other forums as well.

Thanks

thats a fair point proproject - sometimes someone may find the ad helpful but 99% of the time the ads benefit no one and i think that chief has done the right thing by saying no ads as whose to say which ad is ok and which is not - its best just to draw the line and say no ads whatsoever

anyway, if you post regularly on a site, your bound to make buddies and people will want to visit your site
