Ive decided that my current website isn't very user friendly, and on top of that, its not coded very consistently and I think it's probably best to just create a whole new site!

Here is a mockup I have made in Photoshop of a new idea:

What does everyone think? Bear in mind the silhouette of the man will be replaced by me [I just need to get a camera first!]

Also the vine pattern behind it will be improved greatly.

Its a little too spare. I almost think it would be alot better if that header was a rectangle instead of that shape, as the shape doesn't add anything to the page without other shape support.

I forgot to mention that the header will extend all the way to the right of the page, rather than get cut off like in the image.

What I might try will be to include a similar image but at the bottom of the page and flipped horizontally; I haven't decided yet though!

EDIT: I've just uploaded a more recent image

looks better already. I think if you used a square shape at the bottom that looked similar to the header and contained links "about us | Faq | Copyright 2008" it would help tie the header to the rest of the theme.

I can't help but think that if you used the exact same layout and simplicity but changed the header to a square/rectangle... it would look pretty awesome, especially with the blue underlining of the header.

Here is what I would try for comparrison

1. Remove blue from the left of header
2. Utilize same style, but make header into rectangle
3. Add rectangular base with the same style as header
4. Add the same blue from bottom of header to top of lower image.
5. Keep your same simplicity and graphics.

Just an idea, but you might want to plug that in to photoshop and see how it looks. GOod Luck

Thanks for the advice! I'll give it a try sometime. I did originally have it as a rectangle that extended the full width of the page, but decided to add the curved cut-off.

I'll see what its like as a rectangle again now that Ive made the other changes.

Just to let you know Ive updated it again! The page looks as though it is aligned to the right, but this won't be the case when it actually comes to coding the site.

Is the bottom box going to be huge like that once you code it? Did your color scheme change? I remember it being black. Good update

yoyoyo, yeah I decided to go for a blue scheme in the end! Ive also reduced the size of the box at the bottom.

Here is how its coming along so far

That looks pretty good.. I had a little idea after I saw your first version (I thought it looked good in black and not across the page but centered)
Maybe this isn't what you are going for but..
