Hi Guyz and Galz,

A little background...
Wednesday last week our server had a major meltdown. In the process of aforementioned meltdown we lost both the primary and backup hard drives which house all the data for all our sites. We had bits and pieces of data backed up offsite however nothing substantial (yes we know...).

So we have decided to redesign some of our sites before they go live again, this is one of our business, a consumer electronics reseller site with about 25000 visitors/month.

http://www.cheaptronics.com.au

Up until now we have had acceptable conversion rates however nothing you would write home about.

As I have mentioned above the site is in mid-make over and is based on the x-Cart ecommerce engine. However as you can see it has had a substantial make over.

Next on the list of things to do:
-Redesign Logo
-Get rid of that nasty orange bar

Any constructive (and the occasional deconstructive) comments would be great

Cheers

I like the design/functionality.. maybe you could make the page resize easier, it seems to be a static width and only viewable fullsize

I think you are heading in the right direction.

I guess I can't offer too much in terms of transition but I will give you one suggestion: Cohesion

When people look at your site they should feel like it all fits together nicely. The logo the header the body, the sidebar, footer, etc. all fit nicely and nothing sticks out awkwardly.

I would also suggest to come up with a color scheme if you don't like the orange and again make it all the parts fit nicely together.

Thanks for the comments so far. In terms of the colour scheme we are looking at a blue/white theme, the orange in the logo and search bar will be going shortly, for some reason the 3rd product add banner is not appearing.

Since you are also redesigning I would also suggest that you lay your site without using tables but use divs instead through CSS. If you don't know what that is do a little research (there's probably enough info on this forum).

There are many advantages to doing this.

I saw only the 2 images in the code so I think you may not have entered the third banner (could be wrong).

Yep, Pretty familiar with CSS, as we do incremental changes we try to use it as much as possible, however the existing template files are over 4million charactors, and I don't really feel like a complete do over yet. Perhaps in version 2.0 reather than 1.1 :P

hi...
thanks for the review of my site...quite helpful...
About your site...

The first thing that strikes me when i look at your site is...one look and it seems underconstruction. You need to work quite a bit on the graphical look. I mean, on the look part, the design does not look of this age. Seems like several blocks just arranged into one...

Agreed...you gotta get rid of the orange bar and align the search to the right. Have the header of a diff color than white...or if not that change the color of the tabs....

The logo requires to be replaced for sure..

As someone suggested above go for tableless design....and work on the alignment...the Shopping Cart page has some alignment problem...

Implement all the links in the footer with a footer color/graphic matching to that of what ever header you go for....

Hope that was helpful....looking forward to improvements...best of luck

There is too much open space at the bottom of the homepage. Possibly put some "sales" at the bottom of the page. You just want to make sure peoples eyes always see bargains. That way they will think you are a good affordable place to buy electronics from and your conversions will increase .

I like the site. It looks nice and clean. One thing I want to suggest is to add some images in your logo instead of just using a text.

I think you're missing something like putting some header image, minimize the space in the middle of the template but the rest are all good!
