I want to keep the layout basically the same, but I know my color usage needs some work. I would like to stick with a blueish theme. Can any of you guys make suggestions? Thanks.

i don't get your blue-ish theme? all i can see is there fading blue at the top. i thought when you say blue-ish theme everything is blue or shades of blue. oh well, maybe just try to add more color so it won't be to dull or something.

I like the look of it, looks professional IMHO. If you want to go for a blue theme (I assume for the water association of the lake) try using a similar colour faded blue thats in the header instead of the grey on your page headers (i.e. recent news) it may pull everything together (I would keep the dark blue though as a contrast)

Very nice and simple, but I think that you should remove the signup and login links from the navigation menu at the top since your already have them in the sidebar

I agree that the redundancy of the signup/login links needs to go. Also, to stick with the bluish them, I would try removing the blue gradient from the top and replace the brownish header gradients with something in the medium blue realm.

Other than that, it looks good so far. I like the logo and think the layout is pretty professional. I might try a different positioning of the "Join Us Now" link, and see if your eye is drawn there more easily.

I like the design/layout, looks nice and professional........like others suggested, maybe some color at the bottom.

Below is a quick image if some of the blue at the top was brought down on the page.

It looks a bit plain. Most notably, the recent news/newest member/most popular members/members last logged in has too much white space. They're wasting area. If there isn't going to be anything there, hide them. I realize there will be once there are members, but even then, is that important data?

SocialEngine is a fantastic platform to build a community with, so right off the bat you get props for choosing a solid platform.

SocialEngine has structured their script, using Smarty(which you should familiarize yourself with).

I would highly suggest that you go through as much as you can to design your own theme and template. All you need to do is know a little HTML and get into those tpl. files and change things around. There are tons of these sites popping up so it will take some serious effort to set yourself apart from the rest and make it appealing enough for teens to join.

I will only give you a 6.0, only because the design is like so many others. However I may go higher if I could actually visit the site and look around, without joining.
