We have just moved to a new server and had to create a new site. The old one that we had designed was full of garbage. Seems our designer did a terible job on it and now won't work for us anymore. So I have had to do the new site by myself, so I am looking for advice on the new site and the work I have done so far. Any help would be greatful.

Thanks,
James

I'd take out your special notice about being "under construction", in a nutshell.

I'd take some time to talk a bit about what's your site about with some intrigue. And put the text on a solid color background not over the background image you have.

From going to your site I have no idea what it's about.
Is it a store? What's on sale?

We like the background and so do our customers. But how dose this look. I moved the notice to the News and Events page.

I guess I'm just too old, cus I have a hard time reading it with the background design.

Your site takes a long time to load. Anyhow, I would spice up the navigation quite a bit. You don't have any rollovers currently and the text is very plain. Also, try integrating the logo at the top more with the site. It just looks like an image stuck on there, randomly. The font on pages like http://www.medievalmagic.ca/about-us.html (the font color specifically) is difficult to read.

Is the website down at the moment? It said it was loading for like 20+ seconds and then I get a "Failed to open page."

What would you recomend we do with the logo? And as for the rollovers, what things do you think need rollovers? If you are talking about the pictures, they are static only till we get the shopping cart back online. And I changed the font on the About Us page to straight wjite for now. I see what you ment.

The site is online, just a glitch with our DNS. Their system is on the fritz.

I like the layout, I would however make the font bigger. The white on the purple isn't bad, but it is smaller font and a bit harder to read if you're old... I was having problems reading the "moto" for lack of a better word. Not because of the way it's made but simply the font is too small.
Other then that the site flows nicely.

Yeah I am not to happy about the slogan eather, but it is the way it was made for us and the guy who made it has gone on his way and we can't get another made. But I will try a few things to make it beter.

I will also change the font size for the site.

Thanks

First, dump the site pages. Keep the store page and use it as your index page. After all, you're selling stuff.. let them see your store first. You can always build additional pages through your store software. Right now it looks like you have two sites linked together.

I would work on the store's theme, maybe making everything the same shade of purple in the theme to go with your header.

I would also redo the graphic for "the perfect place to begin your journey..." as the text is a bit hard to read. A larger font would help with that.

With a few tweeks your site will look pretty good, and shouldn't take a lot of work either.

Good luck!
