Hey, I am looking for feedback on my page, www.outdoorhighadventure.com/recipes.htm. It seems to me that many recipes for example can fit under breakfast AND lunch, so it isn't organized well. I was thinking about having a link to all the recipes at the top of the page, maybe not under breakfast lunch and dinner categories, and then having the link make the recipe appear below. And then a user clicks on another, the first disappears and the other appears (obviously). Is this a good idea? I really don't think this is organized well, especially in the way that the page is so long, although I have a few buttons that link to the top of the page. Any feedback on this would be helpful! Thanks.

I like your idea... it's slick, simple, and reduces all the scrolling and obviously seeing all the recipes right there is a big plus. Go with it

nifty site by the way

Thanks man. The only problem with listing the recipes by name is how do I sort them? Just two columns in alphabetical order or what? Any ofther feedback from people?

yea i agree with siggy

very nice site

although like u said

i beleive it would be better as yea just like 2 columns alhpetbetical order

and u just select the recipe u would like to see as the list is very long and half the time peoplem would just skip half of the middle ones (which may be the best ones)

other then that great site

Hi,
Yes I would suggest listing the recipes at the top and maybe a brief description, then once the user clicked on the links, it would jump down to the appropiate part of the page... just like the Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner links work right now. Right now, the page is very long and I bet not many people actually take the time to scroll and read the entire page.

Anyhow, I agree with your own suggestion

Matt

I really like your site, i think its very well designed and you know where you are within the site at all times. I also like the bookmark button at the top right corner.

You could make the forum open in a new window (tab) so that surfers can stay on your site as well and being on the forum.

Excellent site!

It really took me some time to find anything wrong with your site at all. That's a good thing! On both the right and left sides of the 'rock' you see 'white' background poking through in several areas. You can fix this easily by filling it in manually in photoshop or other graphic editor.

My only other idea is perhaps to make a rock shadow under or beside the different 'areas'. They look so realistic - that the only thing they are missing are shadows.

Great site.. awesome really, keep up the great work!

Thanks you guys for all the suggestions! NaughtyGirl: Ya, I just converted my background to a gif file, and it changed those parts to white, so I need to fix that. Petportraits: Thanks about the bookmark! I just added that feature in. Before I had the forums open to a new window and many people told me they didn't like it. I figure, that I own the forum too, so I don't care if they leave ODHA for Backpacking Discussions. 170 Designs: Thanks, I do like your sugestion, but I don't know if I could get a description for each recipe. I could just have it link to the recipe on the long page, but then I thought they'd be afraid to scroll through the rest of them. I don't know... any other feedback?!

Well I just went with my original thought. Check it out at http://www.outdoorhighadventure.com/recipes.htm. If you have any idea why my two lists at the top don't line up together, give me some help at a different post, http://www.webmaster-talk.com/html-f...-together.html. Thanks you guys!

OK, for the breakfast/lunch issue: change the center heading to "On The Trail" and put the recipes under both categories (Works for lunch/dinner too.). The upper mis-alignment is a two-line vs one-line perceptual issue while the columnar alignment problem most likely stems from the bulleted list being edited at some point. The method of insertion/deletion changes the formatting. Using a WYSIWYG editor try adding bullets, deleting, backspacing, etc. until you get the right combo. For me, this is much easier than attempting in-depth format reconfigurations within a Windows platform. As for sorting, why not sub-group like a Windows folder? Those who return to find a particular recipe will find a much more user friendly layout. It might also be easier on the webmaster. The theme does suggest a rather nice time up in the mountains, off in the woods, away from the city... Wait! What if the batteries go dead in my laptop? How will I survive without the Web?! Geez, maybe I SHOULD get away for a while. BTW, you've been Blinklisted under the following tags: recipies, alternatives, fun, adventure, survival, trails.

I can't see that your site is about food. It seems a site for mountain climber.

Yes, it is for backpacking. I just have a section about recipes you can use while backpacking, because eating ramen noodles for 5 dinners in a row gets old. VOID Pheonix: Thanks for the help and adding ODHA to Blink! I've never seen that before, but it lookes good! I must not understand how you want to change the category to On The Trail. I can understand if you want my to just change Lunch to On the Trail, but not dinner.... I think I'll just keep the bullets as they are now, since it doesn't seem to be a big deal! Thanks EdTheil for the feedback!
