Just a little sideline I'm trying to do, making small websites for local business' such as hotels and golf clubs etc.

I'm certainly no expert but think its coming on OK so far. Top IMG rotates using a wee bit of PHP code.

Looks fine in FireFox but in IE its all wrong, i need to get that fixed.

I really like the color choice (though the green is hard to see on top of the dark grey). I think you have a bit too much space at the top of the web site. The menu is dead in the Guide section (clicking the links doesn't take you anywhere).

Invalid HTML.

OFF TOPIC: There's a Dumfries road in Virginia and when I saw where you were located, it gave me a giggle...I like to call it Dumb Fries!

IMO, there's too much text on the front page.

I like:

"As a small business there are no more excuses not to be on the Internet"

Make that bigger, and bolder. Maybe change the color so it stands out.

It took me several seconds to find "Our Services". That needs to stand out also.

Nice, simple, and easy on the eyes! Id higher you...

I highly disagree with this. Content is a way to get high rankings and to be seen in search engines. I think it's just the right amount of content for a home page...Not too much, not too little. However, I would try getting additional keywords in there.

Cheers folks, I like the idea of making the slogan bigger/brighter, i will give that a shout.

Do the search engines concentrate on the index page more as others when first looking for content? If so, i'll beef some big words in there,.

I have had a quick tour of your site and overall I liked what I saw, I thought your banners especially good, shows a real flare for visuals.
Why have you linked to a style sheet and then put most of your formatting in the body of the page using tags which are deprecated in the DOCTYPE you specify and used tables for layout.

I looked through your site. It is pretty nice.

I got this image and it is cool but a bit destracting.
http://www.digicars.co.uk/web/img/top/top-4.jpg

Also regarding the images, they didn't change when I was navigating from page to page. It only changed when I reloaded the page. I don't know if this is intentional or not.

SEO - I would work keywords into your other pages. And also vary the meta tag keywords / description for your other pages. Some(maybe all) pages didn't have meta tags.

There is a fair amount of content. I like the "guides" There are some good convincing points throughout.
It may be useful to come up with a 'quick and dirty' key points you want to get across and put them in quotes or something at the top of the content for those who don't want to read much. Depending on the content this may or may not be do-able.

Its debatable but I think you could redo the layout in css and ditch the tables. To further separate the content from the design.

I like the addthis button, its handy.

Make the heading text link to the homepage. GALLOWAYWEB.CO.UK

Cheers for the tips, i'll get some of them points sorted.

As till now, I have never touched a style sheet. So i made my site just editing the things in dreamweaver.

I then added the style sheet purley for the reason i wanted the links to change as i mouseover them.

I need to look up into style sheets and what they can do, (I never knew they were powerful enough to replace tables,) and maybe incorporate that into the site, even if i have to change it.

I guess they are a reccomended layout tool for Html?

I really like your site. It's not over stuffed so I felt like reading it all. Some sites have so much going on that I just skim over them.

CSS and XHTML are the best way to go for creating any layout, along with Photoshop for slicing layouts, editing graphics, creating banners. What you have done so far is great. One thing that kinda bugs me are the .: :. everywhere, just a little too much I think.

And yes, divs and CSS can take you miles where tables leave you in the dust.

Here is another great thing CSS can do that I found a few days ago

http://www.khmerang.com/csslab/decoratingtype/

All that is done with CSS and a small tiny image pattern. So no need for high graphic images with no text. That method is the best for SEO as it keeps the text but adds style.

Just looked at your site using CSS, your making a great effort, keep it up.
You mentioned that you were not aware that CSS was powerful enough to replace tables. Just out of interest have a look at:- http://www.csszengarden.com/ to see what the experts can achieve with CSS, absolutely amazing.

I'm using IE and I don't have any problems viewing the image.

It seems lined up correctly and the image does rotate.
