Hey Jane...

Using our Rating System, here is my opinion...

Appearance Colors, Fonts, Graphics, Logos, Layout, Backgrounds:
I think all the colors go well together. The site colors and layout fit the whole theme. I think a nice patriotic logo up top could really add a nice touch to the site though. I know of a few decent free logo creators. I'll try and make a post about them shortly.

Functionality Navigation: Works and looks fine. I like how you have the navigation on the left and bottom.

Links: All Working!

Load Time: Not to bad. The guestbook page loaded a bit slow for me because of the large pic (on my 56k. I'm getting Cable internet Tuesday). Is that you by President Bush?

Bugs: None Found.

Overall & Content Purpose of site: I love it! What a great idea!

Does appearance and purpose of site match: Like I said above, I think the colors fit well.

Technical Typos, Wording, Grammar: None found.

Domain names are pretty cheap now. I would consider buying one (you can get them as cheap as $8.88). I use directnic ($15 a year).

Overall, I would give it a 7 out of 10. Very interested site. Good Job!

Hi Jane, welcome to the FWT Forum. Feel free to visit the other sites in the site review and give your opinions too. Speaking of opinions, here's mine of your site.

The appearance looks good. I would suggest a logo or title banner for your site as opposed to straight text title. There are lots of places to get logos, and there are also other webmasters that are members of this forum that would help. Check out Graphics & Logos thread.

Functionality is good. The guest book took longer to load but not bad with cable modem. It might be a little slow with dial-ups. I didn't find any bugs or broken links. I would suggest one hits counter for your site that is on the index/home page, well, unless you want to count the total hits to all your pages. Your present counter totals the hits for all your pages. That's more of a preference with me and it might not go along with your intent.

The form followed the function (my way of saying the appearance matched with the purpose).

I didn't find any typos or errors, and I can usually find 'em too.

I give the site a 7.

My personal feelings about sites like this: We need more of them. Thanks for adding to the www. It's good to remember all the heros!!! I hope people will contact you about adding more heros. Hmmm, do you think that this might be a huge site someday? It's a thought.

Keep up the good work.

I wanted to thank you for your nice comments on my site... & for taking the time to check it out.

You're right about a logo, I think. Just haven't found one yet.
I will check out the Graphics & Logos thread, though.

Should I make the picture on the guest book page smaller? (that's my in-laws with the Bush's). I have a cable modem, too, so I didn't think about it being slow to load for people that don't.

I thought I'd see if the site was going to get any interest before getting a domain registered. If I can get people to send stories and/or pictures, I'll definitely register it.

The counter comes with the site, but I'll have to check on whether or not I can change it to just count once instead of for all pages.

Thanks again for your help. This was my first attempt at something like this, so I'm glad you liked it.

Hi Jane,

You could make the photo smaller and at a lesser resolution in the guest book and make it "clickable" to view the larger/higher resolution pic. It's easy enough to forget those slow days of dial-up, hehe, isn't it?

Did you have particular group of people that you wanted stories about? For example, all WWII? or a certain branch of the military? or relatives of yours?

Hi Dave,
I'll have to see what I can do about the picture on the guest book page this week. Thanks for your ideas. You've been really helpful. Now if I can just figure out how to use all the ideas the two of you have given me, I'll be all set. I'm still somewhat new to computers. (only been messing with one for a couple of years so I'm still learning)

Any stories are welcomed! If you have someone you'd like to tell about, or your own personal story, send it to me & I'll get it right on there. Any war or branch of the service. If you have pictures, send those, too!

I see you're from W.Va. I am originally from Hurricane, but have been in Florida for over 20 years.

Thanks again for all your help. If you think of anything else, let me know. I'm open to all suggestions.

Well, I took your advice & made the picture a little smaller on the guest book page. If it's still too big, I can try it again. Also, I added a page.

Now, I have a problem & I'm not sure where to post it. I wanted to register the domain name, but, it's taken. When I went to the site, I got "Page Cannot Be Displayed". It seems like they're not really using it. Should I offer to buy it from them? It expires in September. Or should I register using .net or something else? I could maybe even change the name slightly.(which I don't really want to do). It could be "God Bless THE Heroes" instead of "God Bless OUR Heroes". What do you think?

Thank you for all your help.

Hi Jane,

I did a WHOIS search and it said the GodBlessOurHeros.com, GodBlessOurHeros.net, and GodBlessOurHeros.org are all available. Doubled checked with several services and those three are available. I think you can get that if you want. Note: Jane informed me that I spelled heroes wrong in my WHOIS.

Some prefer short .com names, but I don't know if you would want to shorten it or not, like GBOH.com. That is available too, but it might not give the site the proper "justice".

I don't know about anyone else, but I usually register all three major domain names, like the .com, .net, and .org. Of course, there is info, and biz, and list is growing, but I like to get the main three. That's another IMO for sure.

Hey there,
I just joined this site and have run across this site. So far I feel that is is a cool site. One suggestion. Breaking up the info on the homepage in to several paragraphs instead of one long one. I hve not gone through the whole site yet but will soon and give you an update. Did you happen to do anything for the Sept. 11th attacks? I have put a rating of average till I can review it futher.

I think Jane's site is basically for the American Military Heroes, and possibly allies.

That's not to say that the policemen, fire fighters, rescue squads, volunteers, etc. are not heroes, because they are too! This sight will mainly deal with the military heroes.

A site for any group of heroes has the potential of becoming a huge site. Thinking about that, ya'll might want to consider sending pics, articles, etc., about the military heroes in your families and friends to her for publishing.

My definition of hero includes anyone that has gone beyond the normal routine of the average person. For example, even the people that gave blood in time of need are heroes. But that's a different website too.
