Hi folks, new guy here. I have a question and I'm not really sure how to ask it correctly, but I'll try.
Take this website for example:
http://www.heritagewebdesign.com/
the edges of the boxes are rounded and it has a 3d effect. Is this created in Photoshop and saved as .html?? I've done a lil bit in PSD, but not much. I have PSD. PSD is very hard for me to learn. It's just, to me the new guy, not very user friendly. But I'm sure if I knew more of what I'm doing, I could. I mean I learned Dreamweaver pretty quickly.
That website has a much lighter, airy feel than older websites.
Not that I want a site like that one, but how does one learn to make a site that is not "boxy". I am very good with designing using Dreamweaver, but unless the graphic is 3d, then DW can't give those effects.
Once again, I know I'm probably not asking that right so please excuse me. I'm new at this and I want to get better. It's just a hobby but I have people asking me to build them a site and when I surf around some, I see really smoothe edgy sites and wonder how they build them??
Thanks,
Mark

hi baldrn,

you may want to tweak this tutorial link for the end result you seek...http://www.infinite-fire.net/tutoria...-content-boxes

i created my own boxes at http://www.splashplay.co.uk/about.html using the filter tool and just clicking through each one until i found the one i liked.

Once you've created the boxes in photoshop, "save for web" with 30% optimization, then create tables using dreamweaver and set background with each box picture. get you head around splicing in photoshop, it makes things much, much easier when you port images into dreamwever. I'm sure LadynRed will love me for condoning tables, but it's good enough for newbies untill you commit to css.

good luck

That's an awesome looking site. That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
If you could, I would really like, also, an explanation of CSS. I know that it means cascading style sheets. But, I don't really know what you meant by "untill you commit to css".
Thanks

don't mean to be facetious but here you go... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets

css is opening up a can of worms for newbies so save yourself effort and just get your head around dreamweaver and photoshop first.
