Pafl3a, why would you want to use a png though? Most browsers dont support them, only the new ones...

is simple, u get a better transparency and image clarity then gif
and to see it .. u only need to get ur browser plugin for PNG images

there is some clients who ask a special work to be in PNG format
they get what they ask.

I generally use PNG, mainly as GIF's often suck the colours out of the image and make them look rather hideous. Though for repeated background and such I always (try to) use gif's.

Does IE6 support transparency on gifs? I was very annoyed when my transparent png didn't work on IE6 and I had to replan some things, if I knew gifs worked that would have been much easier.

if u wish a smooth gif image then DON'T USE shadows or blur effects, just simple contour / outline

That is absolutely not true. PNG's WITHOUT Transparency ARE supported by even IE5, there is no harm whatsoever in using a PNG . If you want IE 6 to render transparent PNG's there's a pretty easy fix for that - as long as you don't want the image to repeat.

Oh.. I can only wonder what "client" would ask a 10 year old kid for something like that !! Honestly Shannon, your little world is just that...

Every browser in current use supports the PNG format

Even the notoriously buggy NS4 supports them
