Hi All,

I wish to create a website in a similar style to www.my247.com and www.eatability.com but for a directory of activities with information about the venues, etc.

What free CMS would be most suitable? What I really want is the ability to drag boxes onto the page, so rather than have a preset template I can simply drag a new box into the left or right menu or add another box below the main content section.

I want something that is very simple, I don't like Joomla.

Any ideas? Thanks for any advice too.

I use Drupal exclusively for this kind of site. It's easy to set up using Fantastico scripts (most ISPs provide this via their web control panel), and easy to add blocks in the left or right margins.

Here's a tutorial on how to install Drupal using Fantastico: http://www.blogbelt.com/install_your_blog

Here are some examples of sites that were built with Drupal, to give you an idea of the kinds of blocks that can be added in the margins (adsense, recent forum topics, blog comments, etc):

joomla and drupal are both quite nice, but i am becoming more and more fan of this nice open source cms Modx (http://modxcms.com/) which is quite simple to set up and maintain and also offers cool features like ajax and seo support right out of the box.

I have used Joomla and Drupal. So far, I think Joomla will do the job for you in setting up that kind of website. You can also try PHP-Nuke.
