LOL... okay, stupid title, but you're reading this aren't you?

So I have been racking my brain trying to come up with some ideas for a site I've been tasked to design. The site is for a service oriented company that doesn't have a physical location and they dont sell a specific product (I think that's were my issues lie). Anyway, the company is like a "door to door" flooring installer that offers a service to come to your house, provide samples, and install it in one shot.

I have come up with almost 10 completely different designs, but I'm not happy with any of them and was wondering what you guys think. Any positive feedback is welcome.

Thanks!

Daniel is this the same design that you were looking for inspiration not too long ago?

Care to share a few of the designs you currently don't like. I know sometimes I'm my own worst critic. Last site I was working on I wasn't liking anything, but showed the designs to a friend who's opinion I respect and she liked them a lot better than I did. I eventually took one of them and reworked just a bit and that became the design.

Thanks for piping in vangogh (I value your input). Seems like an on going issue with me eh? The post I made was really a general thing, I happened on that site and thought it would make a good thread. Anyway, maybe I need to revisit it.

My real problem isn't from the perspective of the layout or color scheme, my problem is that I cant think of a "theme" that would give the impression that your visiting a site for home floor consultation... Maybe I didn't express everything above, but I want to achieve the feeling of luxury while also including elements that relate to this service... Help with "elements" is what I think I need.

Man... After writing that I think I'm over analyzing this (I have a habit of doing that). Maybe I just answered my own question... I think I need a mental break.

Maybe a break is all it will take. I know what you mean about the overanalysis though. I do the same thing myself all the time. That last site I was talking about I was trying too hard to give it something extra and overanalyzing things.

Eventually I just scrapped what I had started and divided the page in two. A left side for the navigation the right side for the content and after that it came together pretty fast.

Sometimes I find that finding a color scheme gets me started and I can just throw down a few blocks of color or a few colored lines and it comes together.

I try not to consciously go after a theme or overall feel, but try to keep that theme in mind the whole time I'm designing.

Each time you've mentioned floor cleaning the first thing that popped into my head naturally enough was wood. I keep picturing wood flooring. Now I wouldn't necessarly use imagery of wood since I often find that a little cheesy, but maybe you could just take your color scheme from wood and use some different shades of rich browns and red. Mixing a few tones of browns should give the impression of wood flooring and the darker and richer browns could give an elegant feel to things.

Just an image or two of a room with some nice flooring will probably get across the luxury.

Well I finally gave the client 9 different samples (selection is good right?) and he liked the one I like the least. The I put absolutely no thought into and took me 15 minutes to slap together in PhotoShop...

All that worrying for nothing!

Thanks again vangogh for you help.

Funny. That's happened to me before too. Sometimes I wish they would pick designs I liked a little more, but it just means I get to reuse those designs for someone else.

Glad you you're getting to move past the design and onto the building.

Completely off topic...
I just noticed you're from Boulder. I like to "claim" Colorado as "where I'm from". I used to live in Glenwood Springs, but that was almost 6 years ago... I really miss it. Still have family there. Now I'm in Georgia, the complete opposite. Although, it could be worse

Yep. I'm originally from New York, but kind of passed through town about 9 years ago and never left. I can't say I've spent time in every state, but from what I've seen Colorado is one of the more beautiful states in the US. You know in all this time would you believe I've never been to Glenwood Springs? What's wrong with me.

By the way do you prefer Dan or Daniel? I never know which one to use.
