I am an entry level web designer and I have not ventured much more than HTML. I am going to be building a site to sell music cd's. How do I go about building an online searchable database. I would like to know if there are programs or do I need to code it myself, any help is greatly appreciated.

Well learning PHP and MySQl would be a great start IF you are planning on coding your own, which honestly would be the best way to go because than you dont have to spend hours finding the "right" script for you and you will know the script good and can make changes quickly. (just do a Google search and youll find tons of tutorials)

But to do that it will take you a bit, if you do a search at hotscripts.com you should be able to find what you want!

I'd like to refer you to http://www.ascenvia.net/engine/ . Look at the PHP tutorials if you're into stuff like that. I think it's very easy using PHP. Look up tutorials that deal with searchable mysql databases. The best WYSIWYG editor out there I think for web application development is DreamweaverMX. It's a bit expensive but worth it in the long run. Or check out your web host. In my cPanel, there is a shopping cart script that easily lets you create a complete online shop without much knowledge of HTML of PHP.

Well, if you don't want to do it yourself, you might check into a Yahoo or Paypal shopping cart. This also makes it easier when it comes to security and site certificates because it's already done for you.
