Hello,

I removed a webpage from my site and am wondering if it's best to just let the 404 error happen to get off the google results? If I create a redirect then I may be docked by the gooogle algorythm...

Regards,
Matt

Wouldn't it be easier to just remove any links from any of your remaining pages to the page that you removed? Then you wouldn't have to worry about google or a 404 error page. Besides, once someone gets that 404 error page, they're going to be gone and you might just lose them forever.

Think about it.

i think weddingm meens pages that have allready been indexed in places like google so when people click on them in google they go to a 404 page cos the pages have been removed

I have this problem to but i have removed a hole forum with lots of pages indexed in google i have thought what should i do but there is not much you can do and it would be a bit of a on going job if you did that every time you did some majer updates

If you've moved the page then it's OK to have a redirect to the new page, using "301 Moved Permanently" or "307 Temporary Redirect". If you've deleted it, it's probably best to leave the 404 there.
