I was volunteered to do a website for cheerleading organization my daughter cheers for. I would like to find a nice calendar addition to add to the site so they can put up schedule items like practice times, special sessions, contests, fundraiser due dates and so forth. Ideally, I'd like it to be free since they are low on cash these days. I may purchase the right script though if I come across something that fits.

In terms of usage, I want a simple calendar that one is able to easily input events... so they could do it on their own. The ability to put in repeating events such as weekly practices would be nice. I have run through various script sites and have installed two PHP based calendars, but neither seem to fit too well. One is nice, but it creates calendars for users and my guess is its intent is not for a single calendar... decent script though.

Anyone know of something that might fit this bill?

Well, i don't think that has to be a problem. Just make a simple HTML page with all the months in it, and at the bottom of it just put the important dates and events that belong to it.

Or did you mean something else?

Sure that could be done, but it would be nice if it were a little more robust with a control panel to add, change, move dates and etc. I want to create things they can do... editing HTML is unfortunately something only I can do for them.

I think this one has the most promise as of yet. I just need to figure out how to use it with a person adding things and it appearing for visitors... i.e. people not authenticated to change the calendar. As it stands today it does that... only after you add the events with an admin account, then in a separate step make it availalbe for unregistered users. This extra step might be a problem since I'm trying to keep it simple, since the intended users may have trouble with anything other than a one step process.

WebCalendar is a PHP-based calendar application that can be configured as a single-user calendar, a multi-user calendar for groups of users, or as an event calendar viewable by visitors. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Interbase, MS SQL Server, or ODBC is required.

If you're still looking for a decent calendar system, I would recomend ExtCalendar 2. https://sourceforge.net/projects/extcal/

OpenSource, so it's of course free. Contains an admin section that's pretty simple to use. If you want, you can set yourself up as the admin and just make them the moderators so when they log in they don't see all the technical stuff. Instead they can just deal with the actual calendar functions (adding, editing, removing, approving events). The system allows for anyone to add (registered or not) or you can require approval so anyone can submit an event, but a moderator or admin has to approve.

PHP/MySQL. Simple to setup. Create database name/user/password then upload the files and browse to the index page. It walks you through setup in the browser and connects to the database. Customizable thorugh CSS.

I'm using it for a client and they had virtually no trouble learning it.
