IS anyone here a co-webmaster of a site?

I am thinking of taking on an extra set of hands to keep my site up-to-date and just wondered if anyone could let me know if it is easy to do or not.... Thanks..

I currently co-own a site and it works great for us. I don't know about taking on someone that you don't know as your partner though. We've been friends for a long time and each have our own companies that do the same thing, so we decided it would be easier to combine efforts.

It goes very smoothly for us. If we have a conflict of interests we always find a way to compromise. We trust each other enough regarding money too, so that's not an issue either.

We have a great system going, but I think it really depends on the personalities involved. Trust is a big issue on our site since we both literally have access to all funds and FTP access to everything on our site.

I would be very careful with who you choose or figure out a way to limit certain access, but I can say if you get the right person it really does lighten the load and it lets you concentrate on your product more instead of that and your site maintenance too.

All excellent advice! I tried this a couple of times in the past, and what I learned from the experience was that, unless you completely trust the person and decide exactly who is going to do what etc. you are probably better off getting an assistant or similar to help you. If you've got a database driven site it's easy to do, but even with FTP, give them their own limited access and certain tasks to do. You can still give them a percentage of income etc. but at least you have some sort of 'management structure'.

Grace, I would typically agree with you... I think its a rare thing to find a partnership that works.

Andrea and I were both pretty nervous combining our "babies" in the beginning, but with our situation we were both sinking because of all the big fish out there in our same market.

Now, we can be a bit more competitive. We do have general areas of the site each are unofficially responsible for unless for some reason that person is unavailable and we also keep our products (templates) seperate so we don't run over eachother as well

It works for us

used to co-own some forums a long way back but in the end we called it quits as we werent getting that many users. But the co-operation worked out great, we got along. Still cant beat doing & owning your own site though.

I had a few partners, well still do in http://www.audiosenate.com but to make things similar only I have admin rights. They just moderate. That works pretty well.

I agree that partnerships can work.

Just like partnerships, here on Webmaster-Talk, I have to be very careful which moderators to accept. And even more risky, I highly trust my co-administators of this forum, DMO224 and Chopper. They have access to EVERYTHING.

I would say partnerships are easier and much less risky if you live near and have physical access to that person (did that sounds funny?). But they can work if you are living in from different locations, just be sure you really KNOW and TRUST this person.

Yes I am sure there are partnerships(husband/wife) that do wotk well.

But anything that has two heads is a monster....

I have had problems before. I have had some good experiences with partners.
