Hello,

I am trying to find a good cms script to use when setting up websites for my clients. My requirement are:

- Must use WYSIWYG editor or something close so that it is easy for client to update (but hopefully allows me to make changes by html)

- Easily customisable to a template which i design, or even better customisable into an existing site

After that really additional features are a bonus. I have tried a few, cutenews i found quite nice but it doesnt let you manage a whole site just a news page and it didnt have a WYSIWYG editor. I also tried PHP-nuke which i found absolutely terrible and i checked on a few security sites for vulnerabilities and found that its quite a security risk as well.

I appreciate all your comments. I am only begginning in php so i do not think it good for me to design my own yet and i am sure someone somewhere has designed a system that is just perfect for me.

Thanks,

G

You could try Mambo CMS, its free and has alot of additional features. You can download it at www.mamboserver.com

I you like full flexibility, you could try TYPO3 - I find it alot more diffucult to use, than other free CMS i have tryed. But the flexibility is great. You can download it at www.typo3.com

TYPO3 is a free Open Source content management system for enterprise purposes on the web and in intranets. It offers full flexibility and extendability while featuring an accomplished set of ready-made interfaces, functions and modules.

i've been playing with LucidCMS (lucidcms.com) and it is a great, lightweight, simple very customizable fullsite CMS... i absolutely love it... i'm PHP challenged and had it up and running in no time

a new version is almost ready to be released with a WYSIWYG editor, but if you check out the forums there's a workaround for the existing version

I would go for Mambo. I have tried it before and liked it the most. Also, it is probably the easiest to mod.

yeah mambo is pretty cool, i like the fact you can use wysiwyg or input html directly and the way it handles meta tags and page links is very nice. Im going to try lucid now see how they compare.

Mambo and Typo are really top heavy and rather slow and painful to work with. There are loads of free ones. I have tried a bakers dozen until i decided to make my own. I like what VitaminB said about Lucid, although I never tried that one. But no editor yet?? That's an issue. Seriously, there are tons. Check out this site and demo away. http://opensourcecms.com/index.php

i need to manage a training site. It basically contains articles and has a course catalogue that updates every month (if i use cms i can get someone else to do it). I'd like to maybe have a user submitted article section or a 'ask the guru' type section to bring people into the site.

A guy in the lucid forums installed tinyMCE into Lucid and said it worked just fine, so a WYSIWYG editor can be done with a little know-how..... and like i said the next version is supposed to contain an WYSIWYG editor. Good luck on the search Guerilla let us know what you end up going with

I'd recommend CMS Made Simple for sure. Check out their website at http://www.cmsmadesimple.org.
Good luck!

I'll also recommend the link that netricksdotcom gave you all. There's a demo of many CMS systems... Try a couple, and find out which one you like the best...

html cms don't exist as html is static and wouldn't allow you to run queries to put stuff into the database

cgi ones....!?!?! I really don't know if they exist or if it would be possible to make a cgi one (I don't use cgi)

you can try all che cms at opensourcecms.com
