Ok, I have never used an editor for anything web based besied trying to get some coding help when i was uber n00b. Its aparent to me that most workplaces use editors when creating websites and dont do raw coding anymore. Since i plan to do this as a job when i get out of school i'm going to have to figure out what editors i should use. So i have a few questions.

What is the best editor? I have a feeling its dreamweaver but i'm not sure, and if it is what version? i know sometimes when people release new versions their older ones were better and they completely ruined the program with their "upgrades".

What editors are used in the workplace? This is probably a question more geared for people who are actually pusuing a career in web design, not people who do their own (unless you own a big company )

and last, good tutorials for whatever the best editor is?

I use EditPlus and DW in code view

And Yes I don't have a "proper" job but it pays the bills.

I use HomeSite though if I need to update something quickly and can't be bothered with a full editor I will still revert to Notepad from time to time. I would never use any editor in design mode as you lose control over the code, and having seen some of the abominations that pretend to be code that are out there I am very glad that I learned to hard code

My web development is still at the 'part-time' stage, but I would hope that it will become 'full-time' over the course of the next year or so. I have two other jobs to pay the bills (my main one being a full-time writer) and do this basically because I love it

Well for coding on hand is the safest way to ensure that you don't have sometihing that you dont need in your source. I use few editor but UltraEdit and Scite work the best for me.

For me the best is dreamweaver mx. Nothing halps like this tool. Edit plus is the best for quick changes in the code.

NVU is another option http://www.nvu.com/

100% open source.
WYSIWYG editing of pages, making web creation as easy as typing a letter with your word processor.
Integrated file management via FTP.
I tried to use it and it was really promising, the only one thing I didn't like it doesn't like php code. Try it out!

I use EmEditor , this is like an universal tool, I use this editor for quick html changes, I write my php code in it and becouse it has support for AS ( action script ) files, sometimes I edit external action script files in it.

It's great !

I use dreamweaver, though I'm sure it's not to its full potential. It's nice, but only if you know the code, as it's a mess if you design on it. It helps because it brings up options when you typoe code (but this mainly shows only in HTML)

Nice and user friendly, though to be honest, I've never used any others

Zend and Eclipse but for those hardcore types it must be VI.

I like an IDE to have code completion (which Zend and Eclipse do). However for real power i use my shell (bash to you lot) and it has a nice little text editor called VI thats reputed to be harder to learn than pointers and C.

Which is trype as it takes practice like everything else.

Zend is pretty good but it costs money.
Eclipse can outdo Zend IMHO but its still buggy and crashed quite often, plus I have never been able to get its FTP stuff going on.

Frontpage I would drop kick and Dreamweaver is ok-ish but still would not use it.

The best editor is HomeSite by far. Dreamweaver adds code and has things that clutter the screen. HomeSite is really broken down and easy.

Dreamweaver MX 2004 is the best. It's the closest wysiwyg html editor you can get. You don't have to spend hours coding, it just takes minutes with Dreamweaver. For instance, absolute css layers can be drawn on screen. Plus, the quick tag editor and tag selector is really helpful in fine tuning code. Tip: use the tag selector at the bottom pane when selecting objects to delete and not on the canvas, some code can be left behind. Other than this the code produced is very clean...
