Right, at the moment, I am in the process of building up a website:

Anyway, what I wanted to know, is it possible to have one main template type page, that when I make any amendments too, automatically changes all of the other pages?

For example, if I wanted to add a link to the left hand side menu, or change the banner picture - do I have to manually do this on every single page, or can there be one sort of style sheet which controls the whole site layout?

I have had a quick look around Google at style sheets, and they mainly just seem to be a way of controlling fonts etc, and not the whole layout.

I would basically want the whole page as a template / style sheet, with just the central content panel being the one that I change.

I have very little knowledge of HTML, as I only use Frontpage and a good knowledge of HTML is not usually necessary. Also, the version of Frontpage I am using is in bloody Spanish which doesn't help, meaning it's a bit of trial and error finding out where everythging is.

I belive it to be a good way of learning how to create web pages, so ideal for beginners.

Learning FrontPage means you only learn to use FrontPage. You don't learn how to create pages at all. The HTML code that FP creates is almost incomprehensible, it uses so many IE or MS specific features instead of standards compliant code that many pages created by FP will not work in other browser.

I often find that take many designer who have learnt the FP WYSIWYG are lost totally if they have to edit a page in a text editor.
The same is true of DW btw, If you never look beyond the WYSIWYG stuff you are limited to that and end up lost once that environment is not available.

i have seen a lot of people that say they know webdesign ... but only know programs like FP and DW...

by never at least understanding the code people put a great barrier between them and the posibilities of web design, html, css, php no matter which.

I taught myself how to write html with FP and yes I can edit in a text editor so I wouldnt knock it so much.....

WYSIWYG editors are a good beginers crutch

bimbam, if you really want to use forntpage then you could use the shared borders feature in it. By enabling it, the same things appear in all the pages in the sides and you only need to modify the central content. But as said above , frontpage generates a lot of useless code. I still use frontpage and am switching to DW.
The code generated by DW is not that bad as frontpage.If you have some knowledge of HTML you can easily edit the pages made in DW in any HTML editor. I disagree to the other posters in this regard.

Im with chrishirst... MS FP causes problems with learning html... Seriouslyt... I decieded that I was gonna learn through that and the codes are different in general.. Plus I have had experience with 1rst Page, and it is actually a really good program. I think he should ditch MS FP as well.

I did download 1st page 2000 from www.evrsoft.com as chrishirst suggested but my antivirus warns me not to open it as it contains a trojan. What's up with that???
