I want to start my own website where I offer free layouts/templates, tutorials, and other web stuff. I think it would help me get some experience and help me to build up a portfolio. Anyway, I was looking around at other template sites and started to feel disappointed. Is it just me or are web templates getting outrageously cluttered and confusing? I mean, a lot of them look cool, but they arent that easy to navagate. They seem to go against a lot of what I have read in web design books. Do you agree? Is this where web design is headed?

Templates usually are clustered and confusing. That's why many people customize their templates to have what they need instead of what they don't need. In my opinion, massive customization will be needed when you use a template.

Exactly!

One of the biggest feat for a template customizer is to actually make a template not look like a template at all. It is almost as much work as designing a new website if not more. Templates are ideal for people who have no ideas on where to begin.
