Hi,

I am currently designing the layout for my new website, I quite like the design I have come up with but it seems very overcrowded. Here is a screenshot of the homepage, http://www.notsounknown.co.uk/images/screen.gif. The trouble is that all of the information on the page has to be there and it has to be kept to 780px wide, also the header has to stay pretty much the same.

Does anyone have any tips on how I could perhaps re-design the layout to keep the same content but make it look less crowded? I am not much of a designer but I cannot afford to get a web designer to do it for me. I don't know, perhaps I could re-design the left and right menus or something?

If you would like to see a live url please pm me as I don't want it to get indexed by google and the likes yet (I have accidently done this before!).

Any tips or examples of similar looking websites would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Simon

You could use two columns instead of three. The info in the third column could go in the first column, or some of it could go along the bottom. Best Sellers and Special Offers could go in the first column, while Payments could be spread out along the bottom with Information as a small bottom navigation.

That may help the look and be worth a try, but there's still a lot of information on that page.

You may get more responses in the Site Review forum. Be sure to check out the rules for that forum in order to get a review of your site (or your index page in this case).

Thanks Dave,

I'll see what I can do with 2 columns. I think I may get rid of the best sellers as it takes up quite a bit of room and if I move that to the left side it may cause some problems regarding the length of the page, if you see what I mean.

I'll have a look at the rules for the forum and see if I can get an answer in there.

Thanks again
Simon
