nothing as far as I know, apart from the satisfaction of knowing that you are putting MS out of business ^^

I dont see any benefit in putting MS out of business. Bill Gates has made his money through technology. Fair play to him I say. If people buy his products, its not his fault they stupid/ill-informed.

There is a lot of MS bashers around, but at the end of the day he's successful, rich, and one of the most powerful men on the planet. What am I?

A software developer who can barely afford his mortgage. I know whose shoes Id rather be in!

You're not going to do much more than make a slight dent. MS doesn't solely rely on Internet Explorer. Not seeing as it's free to Windows users anyway...

I think most of the MS Bashers are simply envoius of it's sucess. 99% of people I know who hate Microsoft have no real reason for doing so. A friend of mine the other day was surfing the 'net and just happened to say 'I hate Microsoft...' so I'm like, 'Why do you hate Microsoft?' His reply, 'I dunno...'

Well if you look at the bigger picture its not just a dent.
As for being envious, who isn't? Id loved to be owth $40 billion. But what I don't like is the fact that they dominate the market through underhand techniques, whilst sell inferior products which people have to be beause its so widely used. e.g. there is no point whatso ever in a run of the mil businsess buying say unix for their computer because everybody who goes to work their learnt to used windows at school.... what MS is doing is actually illegal but no-one can stop them because they are simply too powerful.

Good on him! he's cornered a market, grabbed it by the balls and pawned it for $40billion.

To me thats the signs of a true businessman!

No it's not. Quote me the exact laws that state what Microsoft is doing is illegal. If fact, don't quote me, quote the Supreme Court. Good luck. People have already tried.

Care to explain what exactly Microsoft will be HUGELY loosing out on if say, 20% of people started to use Firefox? Take a look at the ammount of software Microsoft currently develop, maintain, and support:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...ew=22&type=all
They have enough revenue they could probably drop IE and not worry too much.

What tequniques, exactly?

Quote:

Why do you think it's so widely used?? If everybody seriously thought it was inferior, would anybody use it???

Yeah, everyone learnt Windows at skool because of the reasons I stated above. People are using Linux and Unix to a point where business are taking it on, however many of them are regretting it. I worked for a company who's IT Manager was into his open source software, I quit the job cos it was such a poor environment. Compared to jbs where they stick to Microsoft, well everything has gone swimmingly in those....

Contrary to popular beleif, Microsoft do not 0wn the government. They are still under the same control as the vast majority of the rest of us. In fact, they tend to use the power they have to help support the law, not break it. Read up on Microsoft's Anti Spam/Spyware papers.

Sorry to pull your post to shreds, but <deleted> you obviously havn't done your research.

Not trying to butt in here or anything, and please don't tear me apart for this! I have no real problems with Microsoft except for Internet Explorer and I hope that Firefox eventually takes over. It would be nice if they did drop it and used Firefox themselves, but I very much doubt that's going to happen.

So, what about the Monopolies and Mergers Commission? http://www.competition-commission.org.uk/

FireFox is definately a better browser, and I regularly convert people to it, I was just starting a discussion really, just to see what other people thought about it, cos at the end of the day Im advertising FireFox for free, but I charge others, surely I should be charging FireFox too?

I agree with everything you say, I promote it for nothing as well. Likewise I am gaining nothing for doing this, it's just one of those things humans do to help each other out, isn't it nice of us!
