Hi,

I would like to get some advice on web design ...

I use the following programs:
- Fireworks CS5
- I would like to learn Photoshop CS5
- and I would like to learn Illustrator CS5

So I am just starting out if there is any advice just post it

There are free tutorials available on the net......Go to Google...))

You have the best graphic software possible, practice, play with the software, in time you will understand the software, the functions, etc. Online tutorials are a great help......

W3school.com is good online website design tutorial.
And work on some live project under some experienced designer and developer..Which build a confidence inside you.

Not convinced that you need to know Illustrator AND Fireworks.
Photoshop plus one of those Vector programs should be enough.

You also need to learn some coding skills if you want to be a web designer.

If you want to learn photoshop and illustrator, you'll find many tutorials online and also you can find many ebooks. Did you try 4shared? I'm sure you'll find many ebooks.

To design and build a nice website, first you have to know about some standards applied to the design process. Also you have to learn a little about marketing, communication and also psychology. All this elements will help you to make a successful website.

There are much science behind a web design and neuromarketers know about that. Remember that a website have to impress your visitors and there are a couple of books that talks about this topics.

The best sites receives awards, and if you win an award is because the design concept, the message and the composition are transmiting the correct information to the visitors. I recommend to visit these sites and analyze it and apply it to your designs.

I would add Dreamweaver CS5 to the list. If you are serious about web design, you want to learn more than just graphics design. You will want to learn how to code.

Web design is not about using Fireworks, or learning photoshop & Illustrator. But those can help latter. The most important part is decide do you want a Static Website or a Dynamic Website?

For static website you'll need to learn HTML and CSS properly. While for dynamic website you'll need to learn HTML, CSS, PHP (or any server site script), SQL, JavaScript (you can also use jQuery javascript library). These are essential and try to implement in a very good way.

When your through with those basics, then beautifying your site with images etc, then Photoshop, illustrator, Fireworks will greatly help.

NOTE: Dreamweaver is a good software to speed up coding of PHP, HTML, CSS etc

Best sources to lean Fireworks CS5, photoshop CS5 and illustrator CS5 are w3schools.com and lynda tutorial. PSD tut is great too!

To learn about photoshop refer online tutorials like slodive.com/photoshop/photoshop-tutorials-for-beginners/
You should install the photoshop in your lap or pc and work in that by using online tutorials.
