One of the the first questions I think every Joomla rookie asks his or herself is "how in the holy moses am i supposed to figure out where all these 'position' areas of the template actually exist".

Well I have two answers so far.

Joomla 1.5 ( and maybe 1.6, 1.7)

Simple append index.php?tp=1 to the end of your home URL

So type in something like this in your browser url bar
www.mysite.com/index.php?tp=1 and you should see an overlay map
of all your Joomla position names

For Joomla 2.5

You can try the same OR
step 1. Log into Joomla Dashboard
step 2. In top menu under extensions, click Template Manager
step 3. In the top right click Options button
step 4. Set Preview Module Positions to enabled then Save & Close
step 5. Click Templates
step 6. In the template you would like to view the structure of, click Preview
step 7. A new window should open

Now, this is one extremely useful post, should be stickied in the CMS forum (if there was one)

Seeing as we don't have a Content Management Systems forum, couldn't we at least stickie the thread to the PHP forum? Or maybe not?

Probably Website Design would be more appropriate, with maybe a permanant "ghost topic"/redirect in this board.

I've asked several times before about getting a CMS forum to pull together all the threads covering WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc.
Since we have an eCommerce forum I don't see why not.

We do have CMS Forum under PHP, not operational. Scott (Physicsguy) moved the thread here, but mentioned I shall have to give the thread up if and when they open up the CMS Forum......
