First, this is my first post here. I'm not a web pro by any means but do put up my own little company site and several personal sites for fun. I use Frontpage 2000 and have done so for several years.

My personal sites are on a free host site and I have always published to them out of FP2000 using the FTP method. Now, suddenly, I get this message when I try to publish by ftp to those same sites and using the same settings that have been just fine for years; it goes like this 550 cannot connect to 4.228.108.41:1327 - connection refused .

I get this message on all three hosts that have previously presented no problems at all. None of the hosting sites seem to have any solutions and I've not been able to find any help on the microsoft sites.

My company site is on hosted on a site that offers fp extensions and I'm still able to publish there.

If anybody has any insights on this it would be greatly appreciated!

From my understanding, the error you have is on the server side, not yours. Looks like someone may have changed the permissions on some directories or folders and now you don't have permission to upload.

I would contact the host and ask them directly.

Thanks for the response on this.

Yes, that was my thought but I get the same error on three different hosting sites. One an all new that I just signed up for! I contacted one host via their trouble ticket system and got a reply telling me to check my setttings, which I did of course but then again they are the same settings I've used for several years!

Hmm, interesting. Do you know how to chmod? Better yet, do you even have access to the server to do this?

Are you sure that they did not change the ftp port on you? 1327 is non-standard and they may have changed it to 21 to help ease their support queue.

Ok, problem solved!!

This morning the IT guy who handles my office and the rest of the building passed through and he suggested it might be my own AV protection causing the problem. He suggested I disable any and all firewall, virus protection and worm protection and then try. VOILA!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Good call cptnwinky. Shouldn't the generic port already be 21? Or does this change with server configs?
