Photoshop CS5 for your graphics and photos.
FireWorks CS5 Quickly create screen graphics, interactive comps, and web application prototypes without writing code.
Dreamweaver CS5 the industry-leading web design software, is an outstanding visual HTML editor and superb code editor.

And do you have any design skills or any kind or artistic talent?

Learn about "drawing" on sheets of paper first.
http://www.klinecreative.com/
If you can't manage to do that, a very expensive piece of software is NOT going to make you an artist (no matter how you obtain it)

To start with Illustrator CS5 has a forum of their own for help using the software. Plus many many online tutorials to help guide you with a project, and we have an Adobe Forum as well.
I wish you the best Farris, have fun with the software, graphics just happens to be my favorite part of web design.

Farris are you also interested in the coding side of things or are you mainly focused on the graphic side?

I'm assuming since you put PHP that your going to be coding so I would suggest learning the basics first:
HTML and CSS. The newest and semi-standard being HTML5 and CSS3.

I will learn how to sketch a logo on paper and on computer it's just a matter of time. I would like to know the easiest road.
Thank you ...

Farris I'd suggest learning how to code both html and css by hand. Even if you later use Dreamweaver to produce the code, you'll be much better off for the time spent hand coding and the greater understanding of both languages you'll have.
Once you have a good understanding of both you can do the same with Javascript and PHP/MySQL

If you decide to hand code this is the place I would suggest, w3Schools, the place I learned from and still use at times.
The "Try it Yourself" editor is a real nice feature they have, along with tutorials on the other scripting languages which is to include PHP.

LOL my brother is learning web design too, and he told me to go there W3School.com. But I prefer Lynda.com, it's not free but it's a great way to learn

I say to start, you need an inspiration. Once you get a vision of what the site looks like, you can start putting the design together in Photoshop. The rest is fairly mechanics.

It is the best resource from w3schools always. I self-learn from there and can able to do on Dreamweaver as well as Photoshop design. Recently, I got full-time web designer for exhibition media company.
