Definitely agree. The more tutorials you try out, the more you learn what tools and what techniques work best. Back when I first started, I would do every tutorial out on the web to see what every feature of Photoshop does.

Better choice will be, that one should buy the CD of "Learn Photoshop" available just everywhere.

Not true. I learned how to use photoshop 100% on my own. I just played with the program.

Html and dreamweaver (you can learn about html in dreamweaver) should be your first step. After you manage to get the basics, i recomend that you go to basics of php and start using Wordpress.

I would suggest creating a website on your own. it'll be crappy in the first version but you'll learn all kinds of things doing so. Practice makes perfect. You can just google for 'web design' and you'll find lots of results. Or you can just visit webdesign.org or any other site of that sort.

i dont know but i first learned html.. took about a week to learn most things
after that i learned css slowly. i learned the basics of it first. after that i would look at free templates and learn the techniques and stuff..
after that i wanted to create better websites! so i bought photoshop and designed my sites from there.. at first they were pretty ugly. after a few years they are somewhat decent now.. still not very good at it, i'll admit.
now it's time to turn the design into a real website... looked at a bunch of psd to html tutorials and couple years after i've somewhat mastered the process. this is my favorite part of web designing. the hard part for me is coming up with a good design in photoshop.
then of course once the site is in html/css/javascript you can decided if you want to integrate it into cms's such as wordpress or joomla.

Learning code by hand is very useful before you think about design. LOTS of problems occur if you don't know how to quickly diagnose and fix those problems.

A $400 piece of software that doesn't do much to teach you how to design or code is probably not the best thing to start with.

Initially you need to have some knowledge about HTML and CSS prior to starting web designing. As a beginner you could learn HTML and CSS through w3schools.com

It isn't meant to teach you. Photoshop is meant to be used so you can gain experience with all the tools it offers. The learning is free with tutorials online.

To make a website, it helps to have a few tools on your computer. You don't need to buy anything or pay any money to learn how to make websites. You don't even need a good computer. Just about any computer will work.
You already have the two basic requirements on your computer to make a webpage:
a web browser and a text editor. You may be tempted to use a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver or FrontPage. But learning HTML has many advantages over WYSIWYG programs, and learning HTML is not any more difficult than learning to use one of those editors.

So the design aspect advise is where?
Do people realize that programming, mark-up coding, and designing are all COMPLETELY different things.

Umm…my comments were talking about DreamWeaver, not Photoshop.
My point still stands. If you're new to design it'll serve you better in the beginning to choose tools that will help you become better at what you do. DreamWeaver isn't meant to do that. It's meant to make things easier for some people. I think once you have a better understanding of the code behind web pages and sites then by all means use it if it helps you design quicker or better.
Starting with DreamWeaver isn't likely to help you understand the code though and you then become dependent on the tool since you've let the tool do much of the work. I'd also suggest that you can find tools that do pretty much what DreamWeaver does for less than its price tag.

I fully agree with you. Learning html using DreamWeaver is not wise. The best way is use a basic text editor like Notepad and learn HTML from scratch. when you're through with that then using dreamweaver will help you speed up work. I also code html, php, javascript using notepad and even SQL (I never use PhpMyAdmin) cause that way you can really learn the coding properly.
latter you can use those tools to speed up your work

I agree. When you don't have tall the bells and whistles you're forced to pay more attention to the code. Later when you're understanding of the code has developed the bells and whistles can make you more productive. At first though, the understanding part is the more important so go with the basic text editor to learn.
