With a no right click javascript:
HTML Code:
<script language=JavaScript>
var message="";
function clickIE() {if (document.all) {(message);return false;}}
function clickNS(e) {if
(document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3) {(message);return false;}}}
if (document.layers)
{document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);document.onmousedown=clickNS;}
else{document.onmouseup=clickNS;document.oncontextmenu=clickIE;}
document.oncontextmenu=new Function("return false")
</script>
Put that in your body tags

There are some java scripts that can do that. You can also put a code to disable rightclicking. My opinion is that if people want to steal from you, nothing could stop them

Hi,

This kind of trick is of no use. When someone sees a page, it is downloaded to the local cache, including images. So images are on the viewer's pc. If he wants it, he just have to go to the good directory.

You could perhaps show your images via a little Flash anim that would download images on the fly from your site. I think that would be one of the best way to block thieves.

But always remember that images seen on a screen are necessarily on the pc, so able to get, even if you need difficult ways.

The javascript was kind of neat until I figured out that all someone has to do is use shortcut keys for the browser menu to save the pics. The javascript voids the mouse which should stop about 70% of your thieves, but the intelligent 30% will still be able to snag them.

Hey,

Well, it's impossible to stop people stealing anything but why not make it very difficult. Some tips:

1. Disable right click
2. Stop image toolbar
3. Scramble your source
4. I believe on a linux box you can prevent direct access to image files? Maybe i'm wrong!

Regards,

Sean

This trick might also help,
people trying to use any mean of 'saving' will result in them saving an empty 'transparent' image, see below

HTML Code:
<div style="background:url('original-image.gif'); width:100; height:100;">
    <img src="transparent.gif" width="100" height="100" />
</div>

No matter what you do people are going to get your images if they want them. Your best bet is to watermark them so if they are used you still might get the credit for the image. even then a good graphic gesigner can fix that. Like Dark-Skys99 said. dont post them if you don't want to share them

I'm afraid this is all part and parcel of being a graphic designer in todays world! People will always steal, rip and copy your graphics no matter how hard you try to prevent it.

Yes I agree that you should watermark them. You also might think about putting them behind a user protected area where the people you intend to see them must sign up in order to see them. If people are going to steel your images they usually won't go through the trouble of logging in. But again if they want your images nothing stops a print screen.
