For one thing, it's just not necessary. For another, IE7 still has some major bugs associated with positioning and the z-index 'stacking order'.

If you think using only absolute positioning will give you pixel-perfect rendering in all browsers, you are mistaken - it won't. It WILL cause more headaches. It's better to learn to use the normal document flow and floats than nailing everything in place with positioning.

I don`t recommend using absolute position at all...
I only use it when I want to put banners in corners

You can use both at the same time!!! Once you learn how to use them, youll learn what the advantages of which one to use and where to use it.

For me, I use float for the main layout... Then there some which I use absolute like the place of logo on the header or forms...etc..

Be careful in using both if you want your site to look good on ie. Ie has problems with both floats and absolute positioning.
If your layout is not fix width or height the safest way is nesting divs and building your frame based on simple clean rules.

You can float, but learn the proper way to do it, ie will give you a hard time if you don't.

absolute or float position both will work properly, only we have to take care of the browser compatibility...
